I've about had it with pull ropes

For real. Soon as I saw. D style handle I knew this guy is doing some wrong. You don’t just break starter pull handles in a few pulls. Nobody does. The only thing wrong here is the OPERATOR or the mechanic who put his pull rope on.

The point of the D handle isn't to prevent breaking the rope. I've never broken a starter cord with or without a D handle.

The point of the D handle is to prevent hurting your fingers when the saw pops and rips the tiny T-handle out of your hand.

As for the D handle getting in your way when limbing ... well, I don't really use my 660 for limbing too much. That's what the 881 is for.
 
I may be right and maybe wrong but I just shoot it with a little WD40 because I don't want oil, the sawdust may eventually stick around in that area - if a spring is quite rusty then I repace it because I know it will go in not to far in the future- IMO
I have also had luck using WD40 on saw recoils.
