Yup I respect both types. And I envy all of the good wood both of you cut. I am stuck cutting 90 percent aspen and mid grade hardwood under 20" diameter. LOL.
You can’t really feel the difference of a light weight bar until about 28”

I can definitely tell in a 25" with the stihl bar I have. But under that I would agree. More noticeable for sure in a 28".

The gurus seems to have come to a verdict over the 20"; Stihl if you want light weight, Tsumura if you want the good looks, Sugihara solid milled looks even better (red letters), and Cannon if you just wants the best. Stihl chain I would guess...
For sure I am not a pro, but I do cut a lot of firewood.
I guess it's just sort of a thing with me, everything I own has to be modified or I'm not happy.
I agree with above, bury the bar in a dead sugar maple and you will know you're cutting some wood.
I cut a lot of red and white oak and locust.

Yep, serval guys have made their own lightweight bars. A warning though, that steel in those bars is pretty hard. But yeah, cut holes, fill with JB weld or other epoxy and go to town. There's threads here and on 0PE about the project.

No idea of what your advanced mind is talkin' about, but I would guess you need HRC 65 endmills and plenty of cutting oil... sounds like a lot of work to me.

Try it without if you want. My understanding is that the holes will pack with sawdust and bind in the cut. Never did it personally though.

FEA would help. The big boys use it I bet.
40 years in the trade. ......I understand.......but there are many handle crankers here.

The epoxy......better be better than JB.....has to be hard but flexible. And what will hold it in?
A key way will hold a little.

I use DEvcon STeel putty for bedding my rifles. Great product. Will give that a try
Yup. Devcon.....steel Or titanium ....for rifles I do it in two steps.
Search Light Weight.....on page 1&3 at least there is a thread on making your own.
