my wife wants to plant a row of trees for privacy along a property line of about 200 yards. these are her requirements: she wants a tree that is fast growing, , hardy in zone 4/5, good for privacy and not something super expensive and it would be a bonus if it was unusual and/or long lived. it can be coniferous or deciduous. anything anyone knows of that would fit most of these? thanks

I'm kind of fond of Tulip Poplar myself for a tree line but if you want privacy hedge I would use Lilac bushes under the trees.

Lilacs bloom better in full sun. Try Syringa reticulate (Japanese tree lilac). They tend to be multi-trunked, max out at 35', bloom later than any other lilac, and the flower clusters are HUGE!!! They are always white (pale cream color). They will grow slowly for the first 3 years, but then make up for it.
