Log splitter return hose to pump

Hi all,

I’ve been having a very difficult time trying to get a hose back on my log splitter. It’s a 26ton Iron and Oak. I had to removed the inlet hose to pump to drain the hydraulic fluid in tank. I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to reconnect the but it will no go back in. I’ve tried getting a new low pressure hydraulic hose but that’s not working either. Any suggestions how I can get this reconnected?

You might be dealing with a spring/ wire wound -anti-collapse hose due to that be under suction. If that's the case that piece of wire might impeding your attempts to reconnect. So you have to turn it to unwind the spring a bit as you try to slip on to the nipple. Sometimes the reinforced ones have to be done the same way.

The hose is definitely wire reinforced and is stiff as can be. Will try to twist and spin on. The inlet to the pump has a 90 degree bend to it causing most of the problem.

Justin - I’ve attached photos; apologies for the quality. As you can see I put a vinyl hose as a temp to prevent any fluid from dripping on the lawn over night. Man it’s gets dark early haha

warm it up with an electric heat gun and it will slide right on.

It’s a satchel and it’s bad luck to put the satchel down on the ground

I haven’t been able to to tackle this yet but the next step is to heat up the hose (colleague recommended that I boil the hose hahah). Let’s see what happens after I clean up after this 2day snowstorm in the NE.

If you can throw the splitter in the garage at least it being room temp vs 10* would help a ton.

VICTORY!

Got the hose on and now I can move on with my life... let the hose soak in near boiling water and lubed up the nipples with the finest dove soap you can find in the NE... hose slid right on.
