MIDDLEBURY—
A 53-year-old Naugatuck man was pronounced dead at the hospital Sunday afternoon after a tree trimming accident..

The tree was being cut by K Landscaping at 400 Charcoal Avenue for clean-up efforts following Storm Sandy, Chief Richard Wildman, of the Middlebury Police Department said.

Michael Pranulis, an employee of the company, was up in the pine tree, cutting it when something went wrong and he became entangled as it fell, Wildman said. He fell over forty feet to the ground, Wildman said.
Emergency personnel were dispatched at 10:31 a.m.

When police and medical personnel arrived, Pranulis was found suffering from head trauma and multiple fractures, Wildman said.

He was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury where he later died from his injuries, Wildman said.

The Middlebury Police Department is continuing the investigation and the Occupational Safety Health Administration is being notified of the accident.
