I wanted to make a couple cuts with this little saw this evening. So, I started it up without the bar and it seemed to be oiling fine. I installed the bar and made a couple cuts before it got dark. I maybe ran it for 10 minutes, 10 or so cuts on some aged pecan. Everything seemed fine so I turned it off. While I was putting the saw away I noticed that the bar was hot. Not burn you hot, but way hotter than it should be. I took the bar back off and started it back up... no oil.

Do oil pumps go out that fast? It's the little cylindrical pump that's pressed into the case. What's the easiest way to change it? Do I have to disassemble the whole saw again?

pull off the hanle , then take a bolt 5mm and screw it to the pump then carefully pull the pump out

I got the old one out. How far do I insert the new one, since I don't have the installation tool to judge depth?

Also, how can I tell if there's a problem with the old one?

until the line you see the pump is thicker and thiner install until you see the thicker part. you can tell if is problem with the old one , is a common problem the oiling with the 180

I think I understand what you're talking about.

The worm gear looks fine. The feed line holds pressure and the oil pick up isn't plugged up. I also made sure that the worm drive was in the notch in the clutch drum. So the only thing left is that the oiler isn't working.
Thanks for the help.

Those oilers very rarely go out. 9 times out of 10 its an air leak with the pickup hose. Unfortunately you should have measured the depth before you pulled it.

They often do have a problem, but the oiler is not the issue. The hose often leaks around the point it plugs into the bottom of the saw at the bottom of the oil pump. When the hoses age, they seem to shrink a bit. I have glued them in with Dirko in the past, but I'm not sure if it's a good way to go. The MS181 and 211 share the same pump. There is a higher volume pump, 1123 640 3201.

No i dont say that its the oiler, just that have problem, for the high volume oilers this is a little dificult to europe , the stihl dont make this oilers for the europe peoples , another stihl magic lets say

Since I have this one out, I'll probably pick up a high flow pump and a new oil line, just to cover the bases. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe the vent isn't working like it should. The vent doesn't look plugged, but the saw is/was so dirty... I may replace both gas and oil anyway, just to be safe.

Yes replace them dont cost too much

I just picked up the oil line and the 2 vents from my Stihl shop. The oiler will have to wait until payday.

Any comments on the aftermarket oilers? Are they ok or will I have to replace it again in a couple months?
