Been seeing a few hybrid chainsaw builds and decided I wanted to try one. Its definitely not practical, but it is fun. I cant imagine some day when I'm gone and someone ends up with this saw and decides to take it to a shop to be serviced. I bet that mechanic will be caught off guard. Anyway, my build consist of a Chinese ms660 with a Chinese 395xp cylinder and piston. Heres some pics. I'll get into the details later. 20190202_213110.jpeg20190208_143601.jpeg20190208_144710.jpeg20190208_151704.jpeg20190209_140849.jpeg20190209_140904.jpeg20190209_155627.jpeg20190209_162849.jpeg20190209_163010.jpeg20190209_163015.jpeg

More. And more to come. Port numbers came out 105 ex, 121 trans, and 80 intake after machine work. After porting the numbers ended up at 101 ex, 121 trans, and 80 intake. I though i took some pics of the porting when i was finished but i guess not. All i have are of the ports roughed in. 20190209_163024.jpeg20190209_170349.jpeg20190209_170552.jpeg

The carb is a walbro wb. Its chokeless, but I ordered a choke rod and valve and a few other pieces to try and make the master control lever on the 660 work with this carb.

The 084 intake boot was not happy with the angle of the 395xp intake. It would have worked but would have been in a bind so I hack it off in the bandsaw and turned another one. A friend of mine is gonna tig it on this evening. Hopefully I will have everything together tonight before bed.

Got some more done tonight. The throttle linkage was a ***** to make, but it works like a charm. The spark plug boot and the cylinder cover is tight. Compression is at 185psi right now, but either my gauge is off or I need to hit the gym. I cant get this thing to turn over more that twice in a pull, sometimes it stops me on one rotation. I dont know how you guys check compression on saws with over 200psi. My choke parts for my carb are taking forever to come in so I'm gonna run it without one for now. Still need to make a bracket for the filter cover to attach to. Gonna try to crank it tomorrow. 20190218_221012.jpeg20190220_222659.jpeg20190220_222730.jpeg20190220_222706.jpeg

Well I hot to crank the saw tonight, but I think I have an air leak or a fuel delivery issue. I have it tore down now to do a vacuum test just to eliminate the air leak idea. I'm not sure if that's the problem because it idles great, like a stock saw. The saw tuned at first on the high side but progressively got leaner as I made cuts. I have no idea what this saw is turning, but it's by far the fastest 6 cube saw I've ever ran in my life. It's actually scary. I dont think that I'm going to put a choke on this carb. I think instead I'm going to make a choke cover that I can put on with the filter and cover off, get it cranked, remove it, and then put the filter and cover back on. Hot restarts are simple one pull starts. As soon as I get the high side fuel issue straight there will be videos. Oh and when I took the clutch drum off I found some carnage. I always rotate the worm hear be hand when installing it to make sure it doesnt interfere with the case, and this one didn't, but I guess with some serious rpm it started making contact. Hers a pic of the aftermath. 20190221_214533.jpeg20190221_214529.jpeg

Passed the vac and pressure test. I did find that the impulse line was kinked. I'm hoping that is my fuel issue. Now I just have to rob a worm gear from another 660 and get this bmf back together.

Got the saw back together and it holds a tune on the high side now. I think it was the kinked impulse line. I modified the air filter base. Now I have to make something to hold the air filter cover on and it will be time for a video. 20190222_001644.jpeg20190222_001650.jpeg

Got to run the saw this afternoon some. It's really strong, but I had a bit of bad luck later on after I made the cutting video. The wrist pin bearing gave up on me. This is a first for me. I guess it was bound to happen if I kept playing Chinese chainsaw roulette. Piston is toast and cylinder has a nice gash below one of the transfers and a spot at the bottom of the intake port. No damage above exhaust or transfers. There's a few dents in the squish band too. It's a real bummer because this saw was running so good and was gonna get stronger. I'm gonna salvage the cylinder and get a new piston and wrist pin bearing. If it wasnt so much work to get another 395 cylinder ready then I wouldn't consider trying to salvage the cylinder. The damage would have been way worse if I had been cutting when it happened. Luckily it was sitting on the ground idling and cut itself off. Anyway, here's the video.

I've had really good luck so far with the farmertec stuff. I would have a failure on this saw though. Just my luck.
