Not sure whether this cylinder has gone through the nikasil or not. Hope it cleans up.

Any thoughts on pistons? There are no-name ones, "golf" brand ones... do meteor or any other recommendations?

crank seal and bearing for PTO side...

Bearing fitted is 17x42x13. Seal if separate must be 33.4 x 23.8

Bearing is actually ok and that part number includes seal 9640 003 2690 which I can get hold of.

IPL shows bearing 9523 003 4460 but that is listed as 14.5mm thick not 13. Strange.

Does this mean I have the old type bearing 9523 003 0440? Will the separate seal fit this? Maybe someone has an old version of the IPL showing the old/superseded parts?

Old post shows

Now i'm not 100% sure on this but i think saws with serial numbers before 10963560 had the early bearing, # 9523 003 0440 , Seal # 9639 003 2690 , Snap ring # 9459 620 2670.

Google suggests this 9639 003 2690 has same dimensions as the 9640 003 2690 which I can get hold of.

Ain't this fun!

Disaster! Must have been a hole in the nikasil where the scuff was and the acid has eaten into the ally. Guessing the cylinder is trashed.

Found a barrel, got a piston. Just need to get this bottom end back together!

Need to pressure test it anyway, don't want to put it back together using the old PTO seal, but really struggling to find a new one :(

Both 87cc? Both 54mm so same stroke?
Believe they share many parts, how would I tell the difference?

Same bore, stroke and cc. According to my sources, the 045 super was made 1977 to 1980, and the 056 Super from 1980 t0 1991. One source (a document from Stihl USA) say that the Super was replaced by the Magnum from 1985 though.

What is marketed/sold may of course vary between different markets., and often are confused with the production time-lines.

Managed to find seals from saagenspezi on german ebay, got the new (pattern) piston installed.

However the saw does feel rather stiff to turn over. Don't think something is too healthy. I think the friction is coming from the piston and cylinder rather than crank. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe it's a poor pattern piston?
