Tree service dropped off an MS 441 off Tuesday night and said it died in the cut. That being said the owner wants it ported. But first things first it needs to run.

Not looking so good this fell out of the muffler/exhaust port.

Is that the piston from that other thread about porting? The machine work looks a bit rough.
 
Well it's time to see what's going on inside. So I start stripping it down looking for possible reasons for the failure.

Air filter looks better than most I come across

The last pic showed it but figured from the piston top pics before you posted the intake side mark pic.

Your first pic almost looks like pieces of new unrun ring in your hand

When rings break they don't always turn colors
