Poulan 2000 won't start

I was recently given a poulan 2000. It will not start. It seems to have good enough compression, it has spark. I'm thinking maybe the carb? I just don't have much experience with them so any help on how to troubleshoot would be great.

Spray fuel in carb to see if it will fire, check fuel line and filter rebuild carb, in that order

It's probably a Walbro WT-20. I doubt you could find new. K10-WAT will be RB kit.
It's also possible to adapt a MS180 carb, which are available for $8, to work on this saw. IIRC, I pulled choke rod out and put nut, bolt, lock washer in. Drilled new throttle rod hole to match old position. Ground down Idle screw for carb box cover clearance.

I'll try putting a little mixed fuel in the carb tomorrow, and where is a good place to get a rebuild kit? Also thanks for the help.

Well when I put a little mixed in the carb it fired up and then died. I checked out the carb a little further no dirt or dust in it, it definitely has a tired looking gasket though. Also when the carb is removed there is a port with a thin metal fin covering it. What is this fin an what is it's purpose? My Husqvarna didn't have one I don't think...


Update.
I can now get it running while choked but when I take the choke off it revs pretty wildly. I had soaked it in seafoam but thoroughly blew it off and dried it after so I don't know if that would cause this or what

The metal fin is the reed valve. It should be flat against the underside of the black carb box. It looks cocked? Remove the 3 big phillips screws, flip it over and inspect.

rebuild the carburetor, it needs diaphragms. they are stiff, also both adjusters Hi Lo should be at around 1 1/8 turns out to start with. I would not remove reed yet.

It was just slightly cocked, I think the previous owner just kinda went at it haha. I tried to straighten it out and retighten the screw.

Did you verify the fuel line is good all the way to the tank? Those tend to go bad and need a new chunk of line.

It looks like he may have replaced it before giving it to me, when I took it apart it all looked clean, it wasn't hard to suck fuel through the line either

Then just throw in a carb kit and you should be good to go. Those saws take a little bit of cranking to start cold as you need to suck fuel about 6 inches from the tank to the carb.
