Today was my only day off this week and I was hoping to make it a productive day. Been raining since last night and it kept me in the house until about 1:00 today. I managed to get a few things done though...

My father in law cam over to help me install my new insert. It wasn't as complicated as I thought it was. I'm sure it isn't installed 100% properly but he swears that his was installed the same way and has been running fine for years. I figure I will see how it operates this year and change it next year if need be. Here's a pic of the first fire in the new stove.

The rain had stopped so while he was here, I had him help me take down a good size Ash that was near the house. It was pretty close to dead like all of the others and it was just a matter of time until the wind blew it over and it crushed either the power lines, a car, or even the house. Some pics after we had it all bucked up. Even had a canine helper...

That's good that u made it a productive day. It rained all day here too actually

That's more than I got done on woodburning today. The truck got a new water pump though.

The picture thing sure could be easier (and those are some small pics for my eyes.):

This was what I put up with for the past two years. Crude blower system. Whole thing sat in the fireplace. Blower attached on the bottom right. Was effective but blew out a lot of soot and smoke. Also had no way to regulate air flow so I burned a lot of wood!

That looks a lot like mine. I tried it the first winter in the house we are in now, but it was only able to maintain the house on a sunny day with a 40 degree outside temperature. Not so bad for soot and smoke in the house though. Did have to tend the fire constantly to keep the temperature up. Definitely not intended as a whole house heating system.

Still working out the bugs in the pics...

Shot of the saw and the upper half of the tree bucked up and brush dragged away

This shot gives an idea of the proximity to the house. Had it fallen toward the house, it probably wouldn't have done much damage but if there were cars parked there, I'd be in trouble...

Put the plow on the quad. Ready for winter! The blade actually worked quite well to push together all of the small twigs and branches in the driveway.

The old blower system I used to put up with before the new insert.

Yes, I was having to add wood all the time. As far as a whole house system goes, it wasn't actually that bad but I'm probably only heating 1000 square feet of the house with it by the time I close doors, etc... It only worked well when someone was home to feed the fire though.
