I have never hiked up there in the Winter. My younger brother got caught up there once in 2 feet of snow just above the treeline. The worst I have been in was going up Tuckermans with 90 degrees at the base camp and getting to the top to find 35 degrees on a full overcast day. My wife and I had a lot of fun up there hiking in our younger days and still do to this day. Now it is not about having to conquer a peak but to just enjoy a hike in the woods.
Yea , Mt Washington has some of the worst weather anywhere, especially in winter, people who train to climb Mt Everest and other 8000 meter peaks actually train there because of the weather conditions in the winter months, you have to be aware of weather conditions ahead of time , especially going above tree line , Mt Madison and Carter IMG_1049.jpegIMG_0522.jpegIMG_0530.jpeg

Dang, Steve. Was extremely focused at the time, lots of rattlesnakes in the PA section.
Yes, some places have lots of them. When I was was in boy scouts we were at a camp near the trail. Our brainiac troop leader thought a night hike would be fun. All the trails around camp were marked in blue. Unfortunately the one we were on intersected with the AT and "Carl" made a wrong turn. Hours later we were stihl hiking. Me and another guy pulled a mutiny and took charge. I knew the area somewhat. We ended up near Boiling Springs and a guy gave us a ride back to camp.

It sure is different terrain! There was one section in PA where all the trees were dead along the ridge and the ground was contaminated. Had something to do with an old zinc smelting plant. That near you?
Don't think I ever heard of that. I'm pretty familiar with the trail from the Mason Dixon line to about 25 miles north of Harrisburg.

How do they make a saw easier to pull? All I see is it is a bigger handle, easier to grab. I have no problem holding grabbing or holding onto a standard "T" handle.
More leverage, if you go just past TDC then pull hard it should be easier for you,

Well, that went well. Hit the willow bush to buck up some stems I had denuded the day I couldn't start the MS362. I had been pulling left handed with the saw on the ground. This morning I tried right handed, saw on ground, 1x4 stick through handle ans stand on it. Fired one pull, running the second. I even felt much stronger than left handed. Had no problem starting it warm either. I hope it still works next spring. I may be down for the winter. The field entry is very rutted and felt a bit squirrely coming back out. . we had a good rain yesterday and more expected tomorrow.

I did come home with a fair load of rounds.

Thanx for the pic.. I used to go boating on the Swift and the Pemi in the spring run off... When everyone went home on Sunday, sometimes I would stay to hike off of the K. Brings back good memories.

My daughter is going crazy! She wants a turkey like I want deer. Today was the last day of the season, but we were not up at the cabin.

Our trail cams have recorded several turkeys at our stands, almost always one at a time, but sometimes 2. This morning, there are 4 (all Toms) in the video at her stand! She thinks they are taunting her!

Some of the best views in NY are just off the AT (but not on it), like Anthony's Nose is about 1/4 mi from the trail. It is after you cross the Bear Mtn Bridge and go up the steep ridge. When you get to the 4wd road at the top (which is really part of Camp Smith) you would have to go right instead of left to see this:
