Howdy gents - hope you like this. Been thinking it out for a few weeks and finally sat down and wrote it out. You know the tune.

I got my first real skip-chain
Bought it at Baileysonline
Touched it and my finger bled
Was the autumn of 89.

When the weather got real cool
Bought a stove and I tried real hard.
Then I quit when I got blisters
Didn’t know the work was so hard.

Oh when I look back now
That winter seemed to last forever.
And if I had the choice
Yeah – I shoulda bought a Dolmar
That was the coldest winter of my life.

Ain’t no use in complainin’
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin’s down at the saw shop
Learnin’ how to mix fuel, yeah.

Freezin’ on my mama’s porch
That winter seemed to last forever.
Oh and when I froze my hand
I knew it wouldn't help to shiver
That was the coldest winter of my life.
Back in the winter of 89.

Man I was killin’ trees
I was young and frigid
I had to stop this freeze
This winter cannot last forever – forever, no, yeah

And now the weather’s changin’
Look at how the snow is almost gone.
Sometimes when I see that old skip-chain
I think about wood, wonder what went wrong.

Freezin’ on my mama’s porch
That winter seemed to last forever.
Oh and when I froze my hand
I knew it wouldn't help to shiver
That was the coldest winter of my life.
Back in the winter of 89.

What key is it in?

Everyone knows all good firewooding songs are in the key of F - for firewood. :) (Also too, in F, the B is flat - as in "I cut down that tree and it now be flat.")

Saw that you crumpled up quite a few pieces of manuscript paper as the ditty went through various iterations. I liked your lost verse:

Gotta get to cuttin', gotta get to fallin.
Wedge this here standing tree, set it down to topple.
But my joy did pass - soon became crestfallen.
What I'd thought was a mighty oak turned out to be a popple!

Now I am gonna have that song stuck in my head all day...:dizzy:..

Have to get the old Alvarez out when I get home...

This'll chase it away real quick.

Whatcha doin with your chapps on the ground
can't cut nuttin with your chapps on the ground.
trippin and a fallin stedda skippin and a fallin
can't do nuttin with your chapps on the ground

Repped ya for that one!

Now, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to go to the local karaoke bar, sing it, and post the video here!

This post will self destruct whenever the bits and bytes feel like it.
