I own a Swisher 34 ton splitter and I was wondering, do you always have to let the log splitter do a full cycle before you split the next piece?

depends...if the log splits when half way thru, i back it up.
if i'm splitting something stringy and it doesn't split in half, i back it up and throw another piece on to push that first one off.
i've split kinding on the splitter using just 4 inch strokes.

Nope, only run it as much as I have to. run it till the piece splits, run it back far enough to get the next piece in.
