Stihl 024 AV?

I’m looking at a Stihl 024 AV I don’t know if it’s a home owner or a pro saw.? How do we tell what Stihl saws are pro’s or not? Is this a good saw. What’s the value in excellent condition? Sorry for being Stihl ignorant.

It is an excellant saw, essentially the lil' brother of the 026.

024 is an excellent pro saw. Great for limbing or small bucking (14” or less)

stihl pro saws typically have an even number for their 3rd number in the “0” series saws and an even number as the 2nd number in newer saws (no idea why)

example :
024/241
026/260/261
360/361/362
Etc...

$200 for a good condition 024 is a fair price, price goes down as condition goes down.

remember the 024 is a pretty old saw a could need some work and more maintenance than newer saws.

Metal crankcase high performance saws. My uncle own an 024av super, it's a powerful little saw.

The weight difference between the 024 and 026 is just too small to make me much of a fan of the 024.

However, I would rather have the 024 than some same-displacement farmer/rancher-class saw.

Well, it may be weird...but, they do have a system. Even third digit in 0 series saws is pro; even second digit in MS saws is pro.

024, 026, 036, 044.... all even third digit, all pro.
MS240, MS260, MS360, MS441...all even 2nd digit, all pro.

Three years ago I sold a Stihl 024 AV for $150 that I rebuilt. The new owner loves the saw.

I don't know about anyone else but to me Stihl pro saws verses the consumer saws is how the saw is built on the bottom end . Pro saws have a crankcase that needs to be split into two halves while the consumer saws are clamshell design that are held together with just four screws.

Yes they all started up and ran. Some were purchased from the same guy with my sons jred 910e. Honest seller.

The 250 has the easy start and the no tools bar adjuster.
