I was just wondering if there's much of a difference between the 026 and the 260? Was curious if they changed the saw much when they changed the numbers. I've been wanting a 260 for a while, and finally came accross an 026 for $200. Just thought I'd do some research first.

AFIK the 026 is about 2ccs smaller(48.7cc) in displacement ,still will tach 14,000 rpm. o26 may be built a bit better.

The lower specs are 100% plagiarized,

Model C.I. C.C. Bore mm Stroke mm B.H.P. Kw LBS. H L Idle Max RPM
026 2.96 48.7 44 32 3.2 1 1 2,800 14,000
MS 260 3.06 50.2 3.2 10.6 2 2 2,800 14,000

I have one of the first 026's that came into dealer.
Very light 10.5 lb. PHO - and 3.5 hp. Mid 80's...IIRR.
Made in Germany if the one you're looking at has a "1" start of serial #.
They generally sell for about $175-$200...more if just seldom used.

Not a lot of difference other than the 260 Pro has adjustable oil pump.

Unless the 026 is really nice - I'd save and buy a 261 - over a 260 unless price is right..!!
Just my 2¢ worth...

I just picked up a MS260 today. I had a few options in saws from the 026 to the ms261 and my decision was based on price then secondly condition. There was a beautiful 026 on the CL but price was high, $465, also was a few ms260's ranging from $200-$450 and a newer 261 which I think was over $500, I got the second lowest price ms260 but would have liked to have had all of them.

I think you'd end up likely paying 1/3 + more for a good 260.
Which ever I use I prefer an fully adjustable carb . I think both came both ways.
I only run a couple 260"s and many 026's. Some 026's I had felt significantly more powerful then others. Neither the 260's felt as powerful as the better 026's I had.
Latest 026's and 260's had a plastic handle bar, little bigger air box and filter, intella carb and little else differant that comes to mind, IMO nothing very significant to make them a much better saw. I think the metal handle bar holds up better, but the other features of the 260 are slight improvements.
