I am having trouble getting the flywheel off my 044. Are the holes in the flywheel threaded? I have a puller but cant grab anything. I tried a bock of wood and a hammer but I hate hitting the crank like that.

Thread the nut on the crank just enough so you won't hit the crank and smack it on the nut. Just hit it hard enough to pop off the flywheel not knock the crank out the other side of the saw.

you need a puller like this, saves a lot of grief

you can also apply heat to the flywheel. the aluminum will expand faster than steel. use a pencil torch if you have one...don't use an insane amount of heat either...doesn't need to be "red hot". that may cause the flywheel to warp.

If you don't have the correct puller, Buy one.
Or take it to a dealer with starter off.
I would think any dealer would do it for less than $5 or a cup of joe.

I would go to dealer and buy a chain or two, then say.
I have my saw in the truck/car and need to get the fly wheel pulled off.
If you have starter off and it nice and clean dealer may do it free.

Why do you need to pull fly wheel?
