This morning I determined there wouldn't be many cool mornings left, and I had a couple more dead Red Oaks to fell and consolidate.
So, this is a full end to end felling of a 16" DBH dead Red Oak. I only carried one saw into this area, that is why the PS 6100 looks like over kill on this tree. Wait for the next video:
That one was pretty easy, it wanted to fall more or less in the direction that would be safest for me, and least likely to hang on another tree.
Walked a couple dozen yards to a bigger tree, probably about 26" DBH, and a little more stubborn in the direction it wanted to go vs the one I wanted it to go. But, nothing major, and the notch and back cut lined it up perfectly. I didn't even get the wedges into this one, it just politely fell where I wanted it:
I've received a couple requests to see the PS 421 in action, and unfortunately, I hit a rock with the PS 6100, so it was out of action till I can sharpen the chain. In the meantime, I walked back to the house and got this little guy to cut some of the smaller stuff:
Then the real work started, dragging it to a more convenient place to process. Fortunately, I have my partner to make the serious checks on my rigging before we began dragging out of the woods:
The first tree was a nice size for dragging and processing. Made a couple pulls, and declared it lunch time. Too hot to get back to it after lunch. So, this is my mini-landing!:
