Sugar Maple, Beech or what?

Isn't any type of Ash I am familiar with. I blew the picture up and the dead leaves do look like some sort of maple leaves.

I think it looks a lot like a red maple laying there, but a straight piece of red maple usually splits easily.

I see some leaves that look like water oak, Quercus nigra, That could be a possililty, Some of the bark pictures would be consistent with water oak also.
 
Definitely not a Beech or Sycamore.

I would go Maple or a type of low ground Oak. The only leaves I could make out from the picture were Oak.

I've come across an Oak that wasn't White, Red, or Pin and it split horribly. But I come across a Maple every once in a while that doesn't split well either.
