Taco Cartridge replacement

The cartridge went out on my Taco 0010. I got another cartridge to replace it. Problem is I can't get the old one out. It acts like it is stuck in the pump. I have tried holding it with a pair of channel locks and tapping on the housing with a hammer. Am I missing something or is it just stuck. The pump did lock up and had power to it for a while.

Its stuck.

I switched to Bell and Gossett and have never looked back.

I replaced one a while back. It was stuck also. I ended up removing the whole pump to get a good grip to pull the old cartridge out.
