Taking a stab at a Poulan 4000 on Ebay

I have recently experienced a increased cash flow due to the sale of a couple of bigger items. I have to spend a little at a time just to keep it from burning a hole in my pocket. Today I came across a vaguely described Poulan 4000 on ebay for $80, shipped to my door. I am figuring there is $80 worth of parts there if the top end turns out to be fried, but I am hoping for the best on this one. There was only one picture taken from the recoil side, has a 3400 recoil cover and the ad just states "missing some parts". I went ahead and snagged it because the seller has sold quite a few saws and everyone seemed to be pleased with what they received.

Not a bad price Roanoker494. The 4000 is probably my favorite all around saw.
64cc and will handle 20"-24" bars easily. Most all parts will interchange between the 3400/3700/4000 saws.

With the 3400 recoil on it, will be interesting to see what they changed, over time. That is one of minor differences in them. The 4000 used a slightly "heavier duty" starter/flywheel engagement. They all use the same flywheel, but with different pawls on the flywheel, and shaft on the recoil. I'll post a couple pics of them.

I had a 3700, ran great had good power. The weight and parts availability are the things that made me get rid of it.

So i swap saws get a stihl, and now the poulan guys are butt hurt cause i made an opinion about it. Go cry a river else where.

It looks to be a "frankensaw" but I like em beat up a little, gives it character. So I should have my 042/048, the Mac 35A, this 4000 and a few other saws ready for the VA GTG in March.
