This is why you buy a decent Stihl (250) and NOT a POS saw.

I have included a few pics. Hired my tree guy to drop a few trees and limb the heck out of the oaks in my yard. I listen to the folk on here and didn't try climbing a ladder and sawing to my death.
I just pay him to drop and limb, and then I come through and buck the oaks and clean up the trash. Its an all day event for me but worth the effort because it saves me about 50% of the typical cost.
For all those wondering..should I buy a Homelite or Poulan and do the same thing?? The answer is no. I started cutting 6 years ago and had a cheap saw that was worth nothing after 6 months. 50 minutes of repair..10 minutes of cutting. Garbage.
So now I have had my Stihl 250 over 5 years, modified the muffler just enough to wake it up and I keep having success. Its not meant to eat like a 361 but it is very light and tears thru 13" red oak nicely. I stopped three times to tension the chain and fill with gas/oil. Oh, and I hit dirt plenty so I changed the chain and it started really tearing up those logs.
Anyways, $279 5 years ago or $179 for a Poulan now that will suck the first day you use it.

BTW..Don't even start about the Husky being a better saw or the 250 being gutless. Im not interested in buying a husky from Home Depot nor a larger saw that would wear me out and make me tired and reckless. I get everything I need with the saw and the dealer.

Yep. It took a few tanks of gas and drilling out a bit of the muffler...but I really like this saw. Its all about expectations. It is not a pro saw, but have had zero complaints in 6 years. Good luck.

My 82 year old grand father cuts 10+ face cord of fire a year wood with his 025. He loves and it works perfect him. I sell a lot of those saws and people seem to use them with little issue.

Sounds like a great saw! I've always been a believer that you buy quality first. Always seems to come out cheaper in the long run. lol

Really? When I went to my local dealer to BUY an MS250, he questioned me about what I wanted to use a saw for, and directed me away from any of the smaller Stihl saws. Oh, an I had already used an MS250 and thought that I liked it...

Does your MS250 have a fully adjustable carb and adjustable oiler? I didn't think so. It isn't my intent to rain on your parade, and particularly since you're happy with your experience, but my Stihl dealer didn't seem to think the product up to the task, and I already had a 60cc saw.

I have one, bout to be sold. My only complaints are bad antivibe and finnicky carb. Starts great, but seems finniky to get fine tuned. But it is super light.

All 250s have a fully adj. carb, unless someone swapped yours. No adj. oiler though. You didn't rain on his parade, he was happy with his saw and that is all that matters. 250s are fine with a 16" b&c and serve the guys well that don't want to spend $500+ on a pro saw to cut 3 trees a year.

Story

This sounds alot like a friend of mine. Actually the opposite. He has a $65,000 Hum V in a garage 11 months out of the year. Yet he drives around a $2000 ford escort. I could think of alot better things to do with $65k than look at it sitting every now and again... Point is, if it works for you, and you use it, go with it. Not everyone cuts 100 cord a year. No sense in having something sitting there when you could use the money for your family, or something better. I'm not saying go cheap, but no need for someone to spend $700 on something they can do with the $300 model. My wife could run a 346xp, it is a girly saw, but she likes her little MS210, and has for over 2 yrs. What would be the point of spending the extra $300 or so??? NADA Good saw dude, good choice for you. It's a Stihl, it'll still be running when most of the other clowns saws are on a pile of garbage in some neighborhood in the projects or a pawn shop somewhere in Skokie, IL... hehehehehehehehe

No pics of the saw?! Come on man, 250 or 880......A Stihl is a Stihl. Surely you got some with sawdust all over it, maybe some bar oil dripping off the chain, or better yet......and action photo. You know with sawdust flying everywhere!

:computer: I love leave lay jobs. And yeah your right it saves you about half the money.
We usually even pile it up, brush all going one way and wood in separate piles.
To many times we would leave a big tangled up mess for the home owner to sort out. Then they see a mess and decide to pay us to finish the job after all.

SPACEMULE...
Look at my requirements...

1) Problem-free

2) Cost effective

3) Cut through most trees

4) Professional and convenient service center

5) Light and managable.

Yet, you then recommend a Dolmar 7900??? Congrats...you have given a suggestion that would meet 2/5 requirements.
Thats why someone like you gets told what to do by someone like me because you can only hit 40% of the requirements. It doesn't make you a bad person, just not the right person to ask any advice other than how to be a complete pole smoker.

EVERYONE ELSE..thanks for the kind words and support. I'm just happy that I get to cut some wood once in awhile!! This site has been fantastic and I appreciate all the knowledge that I get by trolling.

Don't mind me, I'm still venting. Had the dealer pointed me towards a 260 or 270 instead of the heavy 290, I probably would be many chainsaws fewer. :censored:dealer didn't listen when I explained that I wnated a lighter saw(250), and was too :censored:dumb to point me in the right direction. I wasn't on AS then, and was depending upon a real dealer to know what he was talking about.:angrysoapbox:

That's cool, I knew what ya meant. Bad dealers really put a bad rep on great brands. All of the dealers here, reguardless of brand, are kool to talk too and will give real good help when asked.

Excess...Im with you there. I really like that 260 also. It seems like that is what I would pick up if my 250 was out of the game.

The Stihl dealer suggested the 250 to me and said it was very popular for folk like me that needed a decent saw for the right price.

I actually USED and LIKED a 250 prior to going to the dealer looking for one. Like I said, I'm still venting. I thought it a decent little saw for a good price....that and I need to bust these Stihlheads stones on a regular basis.:)
