Toughest saw ever made

My vote for toughest saw that I've ever seen would be for old David Bradleys. My dad has one bought in the late 50's I believe, 917.00006 gear drive that's cut more trees than I'll ever cut in my entire life. Its sat around for 15 years or so, under an open barn, and all I needed to do to get it fire up again was a new carb kit and file the points. Still has descent compression and runs as it was designed to run. I realize a saw like that can't compete as far as performance of any newer saws, plus it weighs close to 30 pounds, but its as tough as they come.

any of the early (pre-Home Depot) Homelites. but I will say that of the most totally abused saws I've seen on eBay, it's seems almost hands down that the saws which have spent their lives being "rode real hard and put up drippin wet," are the Dolmar 120's.

D4mn! Elmore--Now even pictures of them saws are getting abused! They just attract it or something. And they still come out lookin' good! Proof to *me that saw might have to be amongst the toughest of saws ever made.

absolutely the homelite XL12, & remember the super 2 for the time a great tree saw very affordable & easy to repair, the ole blue cases were a grrreat machine. again for their time. its a shame homelite didnt continue & keep up with the times. seems everything built back in the days of real steel ran & keeps running. now a chainsaw can cost as much as a used car..................doug Lxt

I can only go by my own experience, but my Jonsered 451AV was one tough saw. I got it 3rd hand for $45 after it had been abused as a milling saw. Very beat up. But I used it for another 10 years or more without a burp and finally wore out the seals cutting a ditch thru a peat bog. I should put new seals in it and getting it running again....

I think the toughest saw I have ver use has to be my stihl 066 magnum I have run that saw so hard it is not even funny. I love that saw to death besides a carb kit plugs and fuel filters I have never had to put it in the shop or ork on it. I think that is one of the best made saws that are out their on the market today.

I would have to say a Sachs-Dolmar model CT because it was made for long time and sold in certain countries that destroyed everything but this saw. It was so bullet proof you couldnt destroy it.

But for the US my most durable model was the Sachs-Dolmar 112.
