I am wondering what folks take to the cutting grounds with them. My field kit looks like this:

(I can get my truck to where I cut)

Ms361 20" bar and 3 spare chains
Chaps
safety glasses
gloves
gallon of bar oil
gallon of mix
Coil of rope
big first aid kit (EMT)
log rite cant hook
come along
tool box wrenches spares etc
gallon of water

can't think of anything else.

Chaps
Hardhat,earmuffs,visor combined

No chains, I sharpen in the bush. ( sharpen as quick as it takes to change one).
File

Chaps : Check
Hardhat,earmuffs,visor : Check
Gloves : Check
Steelcaps : Check
At least two chains : - in case I completely bugger up one
File : Check
Guide : No
Bar vice : I take Chains : Also its easy enough to file the chain on the mill sitting on saw horses.
Spanners : Actually more like a whole tool box (I bring several sets of spanners and sockets, pliers, allen keys, screwdrivers, hammer, portable drill, bits, tek screws, dual direction torque wrench, clutch cover puller, fast action clamps, stringline and gaffer tape)
Wedges (10 wooden wedges with yellow nylon rope handles so I can see em amongst the sawdust)
Log splitter : Nope but a good idea
Fuel : Check (I bring a couple of litres of premixed fuel but also bring separate petrol and 2S oil and only mix up what I think I will use)
Bar oil : Check
Funnel : Check

EXTRAS for milling:
-----------------------
Sawhorses : 4: two small to put lock on and two large to put the mill on.
Mill : of course
Milling rails : 2 sets that can be joined to mill up to 3 m long.
Extra bolts and nuts for the milling rails
If I'm going some distance from home I will bring a spare bar, and sprocket.
End Sealer and paintbrush
Stickers

NEEDED:
------------------------
First aid kit
A couple of cant hook or peaveys.
Winch

If I'm out all day FOOD and CoRFeei.

cutting kit

Saw : 026
Steeltoe's
safety trousers,
earplyugs
safet glasses
Petrol/oil
bar oilbar wrench.. ( the little handle holder from baileys is great)
Maul
mobile phone
First aid kit in car always

Cutting is only about 2 miles away so no spare chains or files. but would take if going further.

First Aid Kit 101

First Aid Kit = 1. KOTEX pads (large size)
2. duct (duck) tape ( roll enough on dowel/twig for above)
3. Course on pressure points to place above.
Place both of above in belt pocket with wedges.
If cutting alone: wear loud whistle. :newbie:
N.B. Red duct tape color optional.:pumpkin2:

Saw of choice
Wedge(s)
File
Bar wrench
Squeeze bottle of bar oil (quart size of 90 gear oil works well)
Gas mix
Chaps
Axe
Needle, thread, sharp knife (Safety kit, rarely cut alone)

Adjust as I think I need it. Pack in, pack out. Lighter is better.

By the looks of things I should gather some wedges and I have not come across needing my splitting maul but not a bad Idea. I have left some stuff behind that I could not pick up.

Cel phone is the other thing that is always with me but no specifically in the kit.

Who has graduated from the milk crate-crates?

I have a plastic tote with cover that my stuff stays in.

I would never take a maul with me. A good ol' 3.5lb felling axe has many uses, driving felling wedges, getting out a pinched saw, limbing for fun and exercise. Snow and Neally makes really nice axes but are a little pricey, made in Maine, not China.

I have several milk crates, nothing better has come along.

Oops missed the part about milling and bucking saw's guess that counts as more than one.

I just take 2 or 3 or 4 saws all with sharp chain and full of fuel and oil and if I run out I am done.

I take big saw 056
med 360 or 026
stihl hard hat
limbing axe
double bit or maul
1 gallon mix
1 gal bar oil
small tool box ass.wrenches, plugs, files at least 2 chains for each
chain or pull rope
ALWAYS wear steel toes
walkie talkie on shirt, too far out for cell
usually carhart bibs
never really thought about first aid kit Hmmmm..
All packed in milk crates on 4X4 honda Come back later with tractor trailer and splitter. All makes for an enjoyable afternoon for me.Wife appreciates the wood but thinks I'm nuts for having this as a "hobby"

The contents of mine which by the way was my father's saw'en box, varies but most of the time I have: One worn out file of correct size for chain I am running. Two new files for saws I left at home. Two left hand or two right hand gloves (not both), one oil soaked ear plug. A combo wrench for saw I sold 10 years ago. Two felling wedges if I am bucking logs or none if felling. A 9/16" Plumb combination wrench that has been in the box since I remember. a home made carb screwdriver and 1-2" of oil soaked sawdust.

Cut mostly on my own woodlot:
650 H1 Arctic Cat TRV w/ box on back
1 Homey 540 (big)
1 Husky 346XP (med) / 346XPG if it's cold
1 Stihl 015 (small)
tool kit old tool box(files, wrenches, wedges, etc)
1 gallon gas (mixed)
1 gallon chain oil
1 hatchet
2 sets of leather gloves
1 set of chaps
1 safety helmet w/ ear prot.
1 first aid kit stashed on the quad
pulling trailer or wood splitter depending on if I'm splittin or hauling.
Having the TRV is nice allows for you to put on a box on the back of the quad all fits very nicely in it.
Soon will be adding a vice that i'm fabbing to mount to the front rack of quad.

660
bar wrench=right rear pocket
8" flat file=lr pocket
round file=lr pocket
gallon of mixed gas&half gallon of bar oil
hard hat

if it is really hot(like now) i will wear wristbands

if is is really cold(<30 degrees, like i wish it was) i will usually wear gloves

but to be honest if got the whole mobile works in the big jobsite toolbox that is bolted into the back of my pickup

Generally speaking:
-At least two saws, depending on what is being cut.
-Fuel and oil.
-Standard saw box contents - extra eyes, ears, gloves, tools, files, tach, spare -Bars/chains/parts.
-First Aid kit (lives in the vehicle)
-Something to move cut wood with - wheelbarrow, handtruck/dolly, etc.
-Ropes if felling.
-Chains if skidding.
-Ladder if working off the ground.
-Timberjack/cant hook.
-Axe/wedges.
-PPE
-Clean-up equipment appropriate for the worksite: rake, shovel, blower, etc.
-Water, some cans of Coke, and a snack.

Most of the smaller saw-specific stuff, bars up to 20", wedges, PPE, and oil go in the saw box:

All of the above plus fire tools, extinquisher, radio, wash ups, cookies (when I'm not feeling too fat), ice water, snooty coffee and in case the volcano blows, or the flood/wind cuts me off, mre's, toilet paper, dust masks, air filter, non snooty coffee, small sleeping bag, etc. Good thing I got a big pickup. But I'm just logging out roads right now with the saw (named Twinkle). For recreational woodcutting, way less stuff, smaller truck and add dog to equipment list.

good addition

Some of the above are great, but I have found a few times where the best thing I have brought is Wasp and Hornet Spray. Those ground dwellers are nasty!!! Nice small addition that has help a few times.
