Day after Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year. usualy cut wood in great weather AND all the dang government and bank type people have to work and I dont, a rarity. My sons enjoy cutting and there is little we would rather being doing on a nice day than runningthe saws and putting away firewood.

His first big felling, son Bill and his 757 Shindy and a sick Maple mets it's maker. The notch cut

The boys examining the work. Come on Dang it! time for gloating later, LOL

Bill bucking the trunk with the 757, it's a hog and his favorite saw.

Youngest son Allen in the limbs with his new 260

Three hours later the entire tree in split and stacked in the shed. How the heck am I going to get along when they are gone??? Not all of this was from the Maple. Near as we can tell, two cords today. The other end of the shed has a pile like this. Next years wood is done. How ya like my "New" woodshed? Those are grainbin panels on the roof. 11' x 40' and we have $200 in it.

Thats a wonderful wood shed! Always enjoy firewood pics as well. I need to post more wood pics, but i usually cut by myself. I was supposed to cut with my BIL today, but he wimped out just because there was flurries, lol. So I went and murdered part of the hedge row Im cutting out for a farmer.

I see the chaps but, what about the ears and eyes? Were those safety glasses? Anyway nice wood and nice shed! Was the half round shed used before?

in pic #3 it looks like bill is pulling out an earplug... or picking earwax

Yessim we wear ear plugs 'round here and Bill's glasses are safety as are mine. I am working on Allen only because he doesnt wear glasses. No forrestry helmets either. I really think a point of no return exists where a person's awareness of his surroundings, and thus his personal safety, is compromized by garb. Of my stool, sorry. The roof is the metal panels from a 24' round grain bin. The metal is used but the shed is new build this fall.

Nice pics Butch, theres nothing like having a great day with the family doing something you all enjoy!:biggrinbounce2:

+1 on the safety equipment. There comes a point where we wear so much crap that the crap makes us unsafe. I can say it, I have worked in the construction field for 14 years, and have had to deal with all that mess. Pretty soon OSHA and the rest of the damn government will have us confined to kevlar bubbles and we will just bounce around, not getting anything done!

I agree on the safety equipment. I wear a forestry helmet because I sweat too much for glasses. I also like that the muffs on the helmet let me hear more than ear plugs. I wear chaps because they do seem to work, but they are a pain to move around in. Having a family and knowing I have a wife and kids that depend on me has changed my outlook on the safety stuff, definitely.

Great idea for a woodshed! Out here you can find those bins free for removing them.

Yup, Lots of the smaller bins standing unused around here too. Some free, all close to free. I have enough panels to add another 12' bay. Taking down a bin isnt exactly easy but with the cost of steel I think we did OK. No codes here for agricultural other than setback.
