I had this idea the other day while splitting wood, I found a round with a natural hole near the top of the cut. Figuring it would make a great wood duck entrance hole if I cut the front of the round off like a piece of lumber, keeping the hole and using the rest for the entire front of the house.

The cut worked out well but the bark fell off in the process. I simply rounded up some scrap lumber I had lying around for the bottom, sides and back. For the top I used a piece of rough sawed black walnut for a more authentic look. I added a hinge to the top for easy spring cleaning. The whole process probably took an hour. I hope the ducks like it. I haven't hung it yet, but I will soon.

Very nice. Enlarge the hole to a 3"x4" oval, and tack a little piece of 2x2 or branch below it for a foothold.

I made four out of old ammunition boxes a few years ago. We cleaned them out yesterday, and there were six wood ducks on the pond below them today. Hopefully they'll choose to nest there.

Looks good!
Don't forget to put a small piece of "hardware cloth" screen on the inside under the opening. This gives the little ducklings a way to climb out after hatching.

Very nice job. I built quite a few Blue Bird houses with the Cub Scouts two years ago. It sure was cool watching the Blue Birds nest in them.

Looks like you have inspired me to build a Duck house now and set it down by the pond.
