Some of you know the story:
I dropped of the 346XP for warranty service because it ran like crap. Dropped it off to Weirton Rental, on Friday July 8, got a call from the "tech" that next Monday, he was confused and wasn't sure what the problem was. He told me it ran fine and that he just cut with it for 10 minutes, I said do a compression test, he did, it was 90, he said it should be 130, wrong! called me that Wednesday to tell me he would order a new P/C, parts should be in by end of week. The same "tech" called me two weeks later to tell me that my repairs were covered under warranty and he would order the parts today! I told him he already called me and told me all that two weeks ago, he said, oh we have been real busy, not sure when the parts will be in, but he would call me when they came in.

No call after about a week, so I call and he is not in, the manager asks if he can help, I told him thestory, he said that was not good that he will get it taken care of, about another week and I call them today.By the way my time frame may be off a little. Anyway, I call today and the "tech" said, aw man, got your parts yesterday, put it together and when I went to test it the clip that holds the pin to the piston came loose and now it is totally locked up, I can see the grooves on your piston through the exhaust! Not sure what to do!

I almost lost it when he said, your old P/C looked fine but for some reason it had low compression and my boss said jut replace the P/C!!!! Diagnose the dang thing FIRST!! Did you check the ring end gap? Leak down test? Compression test? Bad compression valve? Anything at all, any test?????

So I have been without my saw since June 21, I heat with wood have ZERO wood.

Well, I called Husqvarna, AGAIN, and told them to please ship me a new saw ( just like that and I was really nice) and they said it should be here in a week!

I assume I will have to go back to the servicing center to get my bar and chain and when I do I will get my original P/C, I am sure I can save it, after all it looked fine, just low compression.

Have a beer for me! Make it two . . . lol

Next time work on your own saws!

Might be able to save it unless the cylinder/piston is out of round. There is also a possibility that Husqvarna is going to want all the parts for inspection.

Glad to hear your saga may finally be coming to an end.

That would have voided the warranty

Yea, working on your own saws is all well and good but why do it when you have a warranty? You did the right thing and played it just right. Husqvarna also treated you right. I would hope all saw companies would do it just the same. Those guys raped your saw. That's the one thing about working on your own saws. You know what you done and you know it's done right. Better than some joker waiting to get off work soon as he gets it slapped together. Thats the good thing about a warranty though. It not only covers the parts but also covers half-ass mechanics when they destroy the saw.

another warranty

Do you think my new saw will have a new warranty? And I learned three major things:

1) Buy more chainsaws for back up.

2) Get ahead on the wood, but since we just moved in I have not had a chance to . . .

3) Buy more chainsaws.

Ideally, your new saw would have full warranty, but odds are that it will only have the balance of the original saw's warranty. That's usually how warranties work.

This is the first case I've heard of someone needed warranty work on a 346.

Likely you wont need it again.

1) Two saws is always better than one.

2) One / Two years ahead on firewood. I wouldn't want to burn wood this winter, that was cut now.

3) Two or more saws is better than one. :msp_wink:

Hope you get the new one quick!

Well, I am a little surprised that you took all that stated crap for granted if you supposedly know yourself how to diagnose that saw correctly. Why didn't you start a technical conversation with the guy if you knew he was telling you nonsense ? Sounds a bit confusing...

Did you get a new saw with a simple direct call to Husqvarna ?....again very surprising.
Would love to hear the dealer side of the story

Does raise a few questions, doesn't it ???

I believe Zeek learned this, on this site, after posting the first or second thread in this series.

I could be wrong though...

you are correct

Correct, I pretty much learned all that I said AFTER my saw was out of my hands and THANK YOU to all those who educated me. I think if I would have posted first I might have been able to get it diagnosed myself, but then what? It was under warranty and I am paying for parts out of pocket just so I can fix it. Looking back now, I see low compression, no visible P/C damage, must be stuck comp. release valve or bad gasket(s) or ring gummed up?

Also, I did have a technical conversation the "tech" and it began with . . . "do a compression test, it is not running right, trust me."

Dealer side I think is simple, they never saw a 346XP, or used one so they had no idea what a beast that saw is and how fast it runs. By the way the dealer told me they (Husqvarna) is sending a new, unit bar and chain . . .

how I got a new saw

I called Husqvarna because the dealer service was terrible, that was two dealers ago, and therefore that opened a ticket and they tracked it, so when I called I gave them the ticket number. They asked me to call and update them as they wanted to be sure it was fully resolved.

If you go back a few posts a few people on here said I was just being a PIA and the old dealer fired me because I went over their head, well that phone call got the ball rolling and, about 62 days after mysaw went down I should have new one on my door step!
