I'm looking for a little larger and more aggresive dog for a 361. Currently its the stock single dog and really lacks the 'stick" when cutting some hardwoods. What kind of options do I have.

361 Wrap Model Dogs

I would look at the factory dual dogs that came with the 361 Wrap handle kit. They are a little bigger than the standard ones. You should be able to order them from any Stihl dealer. I had these on an older 361 and they worked great. Make sure you get the chain catcher too.

I wasn't sure I could find what I needed at the shop, so I made my own. I cut the blanks out of an old crosscut saw, so I know the steel's good. Didn't take as long as I thought it would. I used the original as a template and just extended the fingers. These dogs bite.

Wow I would say they do.

So I can put a 441 or 460 set of dogs on a 361?? They simply won't fit.

Do you guys know if any are interchangeable?

Search function seems to be on the fritz but there is a kit available from Stihl with two dawgs. They are basically the same size as the single stocker but there are two and it has the chain catcher as well. It is perfect for the 361. Bigger dawgs are usually a pita in hardwood IMO.

The 441 inside dog only needs a bit of file/grinder work at the bottom hole to fit. It worked great for me...until I needed an outside dog. The factory outside one is available but it is the same size as the original inside one so I am now back to stock.

Bottom line. Buy the 361 dual dog set up. $39 IIRC from Bailey's.

With the dual dog set up do you have to pull off the outside god everytime you want to pull the side cover and adjust the chain?

Na mate the roller chain catcher is fixed to the inner dog and the pin going through the roller locates in a hole in the outer dog, with the Stihls to adjust the chain loosen nuts and adjust using the slotted screw and tighten nuts again holding bar up before tightning nuts.

I do just the opposite. The chain catcher is bolted the outside dogs (not tightly, a little wiggle room is left) so it comes off the saw and is never in the way for cleaning. To each his own, eh?
