What should I ask for this saw?

I am newly registered but have been lurking around for a while getting questions answered and learning more and more about chainsaws. I have three saws now, a smaller Stihl (MS190 I think), a Husky 440, and an old Stihl 056 Mag II. I am considering selling the 056 to get something a little smaller and lighter. I rarely have a need for this big of a saw and don't run it to it's potential.

It is an old weyhauser saw and I have 3 or 4 36" bars for it a couple are old beaters and at least one is almost new. I think I also have a 32" bar and know I have a 50" bar as well. The saw starts and runs great and has never given me a single problem. It is well tuned for about 4300' elevation.

My question is what is a fair price to ask for this beast of a saw? I have seen them selling from about $250 all the way up to about $650. Any help you guys could give would be great.

I also wanted to say thanks for all I have read about other saws, I think I will replace the 056 with a MS362 based on my reading here.

At least you should provide some pictures, when you ask a question like that.....:wink2:

+1...

Condition is key... If its a beat up runner yeah maybe $250, But if its real clean I've seen them go for $750 On ebay.
Don't expect to get that kind of money in a private sale though, and even though you might get more on ebay there is always the fees to consider and the fact the buyer basically can return the saw to you (for any reason!) for 45 days.

I picked up my MagII along with a Mag for $23 with a 32 inch bar. The Mag II is my runner and all I need to get the other Mag running is a fuel line and a AV mount.

First post and a "how much is my saw worth and who wants to buy it" thread, with a poll and no pictures. Well done, sir. :dizzy:

Yep, this "smells" bad - like misuse of the site. It makes me doubt he ever will contribute to the site, just use it for his own good? :msp_rolleyes:

agree- seems like misuse. But the thread will make for good Friday night entertainment.

He needs an option for $0-$50 dollars becouse thats all i would pay for one. And i have bought a few at that price:msp_biggrin:

So far he's not making an offer to sell the saw...thus no rule violation. Let's see where this one goes.

Besides, if we eliminated everybody who doesn't contribute anything to the site it might get awfully quiet around here. :)

As I understand it, the 056 Mag II is a decent saw, specially for long/heavy bars, as it has an outboard clutch and quite good sideways balance! :msp_biggrin:

Some say it is better than the 066/MS660, despite more weight......

:clap:sawtroll likes the 056 , the only people that like the 056 better then the 066/660 are the ones that have not ran the 066/660

I agree with all that - but it is a bad sign when new members start with a post that only is designed to help themselves. We will see....:msp_wink:

Well played, well played indeed.

The bars are worth more than the door stop.

To the OP, if you are selling the bars with the saw, that could potentially double the value as bars that long are expensive. I believe the 056 uses the 3002 mount which doesn't fit the 066/660 but fits the 084,088,880, etc. They can also be adapted to the 070/090 series.

Condition of the bars and saw is key so some detailed photos would be essential to get an appraisal. Otherwise it's like asking what my 66 Mustang is worth?

Put up some pics and your poll will get some activity. Based on what we know, it is impossible to give any useful advice.

eBay is one way to find out what people think something is worth and this is a pretty good time to sell. Good pics and good description brings the most bucks. Same if you post in the classifieds here on this site. Detailed info is key.

.........

3003, so they fit the 066/660, and not the others you mentioned..

Thanks for straightening that out for me. i confused the 056 with the 076. my bad...

However, if those long bars are in the 3003 mount, they are probably worth more yet as the majority of Stihl saws fit the 3003 mount and Stihl only makes that mount up to 36".

Need pics.
