Well I am now the proud owner of a non-pro MS 260 off ebuy. That is, when it gets to me. First step is to disassemble for clean and inspect, then pull out the oil seals to replace, then put in pro type oil pump. Question, Can I get the seals out without a "puller"? Like can I grind a nail head to fit in there and pull it out with vice-grips?

Lisle makes a cheap puller for about $20 but it will need the part thats slides under the seal lip to be ground smaller to get the small seal out of the saw. Recently, I could not locate my puller, punched a hole on opposite sides of the seal with an ice pick & pulled the seal out with 2 drywall screws. Not ideal, but it worked in a pinch.

Here is a seal puller that has pulled many seals out and it cost about $1.50 (back in the day) :msp_ohmy:

You can always drill a small hole on either side of the seal lips to get screws in them to help pull as well, in some saws it might lesson the possibility of damaging anything trying to drive a pick or punch through the metal wall.

I've just been punching a hole in the seal with a pick or awl and then hooking it with a pick or screw and yanking it out. I have the lisle puller and another style puller ordered. I'm not willing to pay the $120 for the stihl puller. I could probably make one cheaper. You can, however just buy the jaws for the puller separately for like $25 (can't remember). I thought I could try attaching those to a pair of pliers and going that route.

H 2 H, I like your puller. I think I'm going to have to make one like it. Did you temper the end at all, or just grind it and quench in water as necessary?
