The good Lord has blessed me with the opportunity to build two saws back to back that are the same but will be receiving different treatments. I have a brand new Jonsered 2172 and a well used Husky 372 X-TORQ that needed bearings & a new piston. I had the go ahead to do whatever I wanted to the husky, but the owner of the Jonny wanted to keep it a true strato.

The plans are to build the husky & do away with the split induction so that it pulls fue/air mix through the stratto ports also. Basically the same thing I do to the MS261. It will be receiving a Tilly carb off of a 385xp wich is pretty much a direct swap.

The Jonny will be built to keep it a stratto. Other than the induction it will be the same as the husky. This will hopefully answer a few questions about which way produces more power. Ill also be throwing a standard ported quadport 372 in the mix for the test vids to see how the old generations stack up against the new X-TORQs.

I think the orange is prettier

But some prefer the black over red colors.

Now on to the fun part. Dissection and modification.

The husky needed new bearings, seals, and piston kit before I could proceed with the mods. It was a rather well-used machine that looked to have had it's share of time in the woods.

Both saws will be getting the sqishband cut.

and after

Plenty of material to remove from the intake port, but no widening since the piston is narrow between the stratto pockets

Before I got started on the Jonny I wanted to do a comparison vid between the two. I put a fresh edge on the chain & set the rakers to .030". With the saws warmed up & tuned, the jonny to 13,500 & the husky to 14,300, I was ready for the showdown.

I think The husky turned out ok.:msp_wink:

3/4 the way through the video... No husky yet... Something wrong... I don't think so!

Now is time for some answers. Which one is faster? The jonny with the stratto ports still functional or the husky that is flowin nothing but air/fuel mix through all the ports. Stop watches ready??

Another question that has been asked is which version can you get the most out of, the first generation 372 with quad ports or the new gen with the stratto top end. I've had allot more experience with the quad ports, but not sure right now what else I can do for the X-TORQ's.
