It was the best of builds, it was the worst of builds, it was the build of ease, it was the build of mistakes, it was a moment of triumph, it was a moment of humility, one was mild, and one was wild.

Exhaust 156
Trans 115 Blowdown 20.5

We'll start with the easy build... the mild one.

No one ever shows the progression of a port as they do it so I thought it would be neat to show the major milestones of a transfer port.
Lower transfer roughed in with large burr.

Just a little teaser of the wild build... WJ70 from a 394, 0.025" bigger main bore. I had to make a custom throttle roller.

Ok... wild numbers.

Exhaust 162
Trans 126 Blowdown 18
Intake 160

Mistake #1... went to high on exhaust on accident... somewhere around 168 so I had to take more out of the squish than to original 0.040" I wanted.
-0.070" on the squish with 2 extra angles to help smooth it into the combustion chamber.

Mistake #2: Ground out of the transfer port side and top... welded once... ground out again... ended up having to put a little epoxy on it. Sorry I didn't get a picture of the holes.

Finished transfer.

Mistake #3: Ground out the top of exhaust. A little more epoxy will fix the small hole (upper right). The flange has been welded to add more material to seal with.

Grrr! More problems. Now that the cylinder has dropped so much the carb won't clear the case. A little clearancing is needed.

Carb installed. I fixed the coil wire later... that crimp connector was bothering me.

Used a 395 choke pull because the 288 was not long enough. I still had to straighten out the bend of the 395 rod to make it work.

Muffler outlet. Big enough?

Screen installed.

Fits nicely under the high top.

Pushing 200 PSI before even starting... this thing is going to be a turd to start on a cold day.

Bed time for this guy. Plan to take the snow scooter out tomorrow and head south from cr.. Will find out how bad the conditions really are.

Must be nice... I have to work tomorrow. It's pretty crusty around here... I'd head north again. Anyway supposed to get some snow later tomorrow and Friday. Hopefully I'll get out for a bit on Friday and over the weekend.
