026 carb adjust

Howdy,I know this is probably a green horn type question, but I have an 026 that has only two adjustments. One screw up top in between the H and L holes(which are plugged )
One screw for LA. When I adjust the idle down to where it should be,then it loads up and is doggy on throttle response. I Hav'nt had the saw long, rebuild it? Pitch it? Go with a new carb?
Any opinions appreciated. THANKS!

You say "two adjustments", and then you say both the "L" and "H" holes are plugged. I suspect that you have an "L" adjustment and an "LA" adjustment. I further suspect that you might be adjusting the "L" screw in an attempt to adjust your idle. "L" is an adjustment of the low-speed mixture circuit, not the idle adjustment.

At idle, adjust your "L" clockwise until it just starts to run run more poorly. Note that location, then adjust "L" counter-clockwise until it again just starts to run more poorly. Note that location. Now turn the "L" screw clockwise again until you are just about half-way between the two limit locations that you noted previously. You should get good throttle response now.

Now adjust "LA" until the chain stops moving at idle - this is your idle adjustment screw.

Repeat the entire procedure above again and until you are satisfied.

x2, The 026 is a really good saw, don't junk it.
 
Thanks for the help! I had adjusted the L screw to clockwise all the way closed and then backed it out 1so full turn. When I got the saw the inside of the muffler seemed to be kind of sooty. Fuel consumption seemed high also, so I was trying to lean it out a bit. It also had a lawn mower plug in it, which probably did not help.
I then was trying to adjust the idle down with the LA screw.
i'll try the above mentioned procedure.
I wasn't going to pitch the saw, just the carb!

If you do pitch it make sure you get the fully adjustable WT194 carb. Its worth it.
