Good afternoon, everyone! :) I am the girlfriend of a tree climber, he was doing it for pleasure (he mills his own wood) but is now doing it professionally. I am looking for ideas for his birthday (the 22nd) and Christmas-things he might need or enjoy having. My knowledge is *very* limited on what is what, so I appreciate any help! :)

I do know he needs some new cushioned tall socks to wear with his Whites when climbing. He likes thick ones, any suggestions?

He also needs to send his Whites in to get re-soled, but hasn't yet because he is wearing them almost daily. Any suggestions on fairly inexpensive, comfortable boots that would hold him over while his good ones are getting replaced?

He has a fairly basic harness, which does the job just fine but I know it is not comfortable around his thighs with it's one strap (I think) wrap on the legs. Any suggestions on add ons I could buy to make his harness more comfortable?

Again, thank you so much for listening and offering your advice. :)

Does he have a Silky handsaw? A Sugoi is a great thing to have.

When I was starting out, I got a few chainsaw chains (need to be specific size to fit specific saws...you can get the numbers off of the bar) and they were appreciated.

Depending on what climbing system he is using/wants to use, the "gear" list can get long. Everybody's preferences are going to he a little different: Foot ascender, Knee ascender, Rope Wrench, Unicender, more Carabiners, Zigzag, Akimbo (not out yet...you'd be the bomb if you got him one of those!).

A better climbing rope? (depending on what he has)

A good gear bag.

Big Shot.

Thank you so much for all of the suggestions. I'm going to see if I can figure out exactly what he does have this weekend and go from there.

Do you have any recommendations on gear bags and socks?

It looks like Sherrill quit making the gear bag that I have and really really like. The new Notch ones (Sherrill/TreeStuff brand) don't look to be as nice. Quickly browsing through what Tree Stuff has, if I had to pick a new one today, I'd probably get this one: http://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?category_id=331&item=1099

The Cross Pro looks like it could be pretty nice too: http://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?category_id=331&item=12302#

(both of these are also available at Wesspur - both good places to buy from. I but from Treestuff more because shipping from Wesspur takes a couple of days longer...but that won't be the case for you on the west coast.
