180 top end onto ms 170 ...

Wood that be possible? So close but that clam may be enough different. Ya kno rather than buy first with out a 180

I've got a DIY 180 that I made with a roached ms170 chassis and chi-com engine and carb. Then I did some fancy work with a sharpy marker to half-@ change the 7to8

Yes, the 180 p/c will fit a 170. Makes a little sleeper out of it!
I did the same thing on a 290 I repaired for a buddy. I put a 390 top end on it. He was very happy with it. Lot more power with no added weight. And he got a complimentary decomp valve to help his aging sore shoulder!! (I had to use my Dremel tool to carefully cut a hole in his top cover for access to the decomp valve.) He was happier than a gopher in soft dirt!!!

170 and 180 are identical except for the bore size.

The 017 and 018 powereggs mount the same to the chassis: the outer 4 bolts go through down chassis. You will need to pull the oil feed line out of the oil pump hole to get to one of these bolts from the bottom of the chassis.

You do not need to undo the inner 4 clamshell bolts.
