    Store-Bought Potatoes

Ordered most of my seeds months ago. I think I was a few dollars away from free shipping so I went ahead and ordered some Yukon gold. Basically they were free because of no shipping. I am curious how they will do. Last year I did not have time to plant a tilled garden so I planted my potatoes in...

Thanks for the reply. I agree on the ethical part. You are pretty close to me we live 8 miles from East Palestine and my eastern property line borders mines and meadows. The man that owned the mines part was a friend of ours he just passed away a few days ago. Next time you go there one of my...

I see you’re from Ohio. Every year we visit in western Ohio doing the 127 yard sale. There are some mink farms along that route. A few years ago we were told some activists freed several hundred minks from their cages. I never heard how much damage they did. I just wonder if or how much poultry...

I am thinking about getting some Breese chicks, what I have read about them is they lay about 260 eggs a year. But they claim to be the best tasting chicken in the world. Anyone ever raise these? If you have are the claims correct?

We still get feed from a local mill $11.50 a 50 pound bag. You’re right it’s cheaper but I enjoy it. With the meat birds gone that sure saves feed and water. I also have 12 midget white turkeys.

Thanks mudstopper for the heads up. Backyard lumberjack, I have one customer that pays $5.00 I told him I sell them to anyone else for $2.50 but he loves the eggs. I hate to take eggs to the auction but we still get 1.50 average. Last winter we were getting $4 and $ 5 a dozen eggs were scarce...

Just butchered our meat birds Saturday. We only did 50 birds this year took about 2 hours. We have 45 egg layers and get 35 to 40 eggs a day. We are having trouble getting rid of eggs. About every 3 weeks we take around 20 to 25 dozen to the auction. I am thinking about selling about 15 of last...

I took my time building my new coop last year and so far I have not lost a chicken. The actual coop is 8x10 and is 4 feet off the ground. Underneath the coop is a storage area that is fully closed in With wood. The floor of the storage area is 6 inch concrete. The run is 8x20 and framed with 4x4...

I worked 35 years at Medusa Cement company. Before it was Medusa it was Crescent Cement, after Medusa Cemex. Crescent mined under ground for limestone. The area mined is about twenty feet high with support columns of natural limestone left there for support. It’s doesn’t matter the outside temp...

Grizz, another guy I forgot about and so far have not seen Is a bobcat. Our property runs up against an ATV trail called Mines and Meadows. My best friend works over there every day grooming trails. He has spotted a bobcat at least 3 times this year.

You are probably right about not seeing the mink. But so far no damage. You are also right about those activists.

We also have foxes, coyotes and bears. I did not mention them because I cannot recall losing birds to them. Bears down in this area are few but in our mountain areas there are a lot. I built a new coop last year and have about a 30x15 run. I did the best I could to make it as predator proof as I...

the wife loves to do that worlds longest yard sale every year. So each year we head out to route 127 in Ohio. I was told there are several mink farms in that area. I was also told a few years ago some animal lovers broke in and let thousands of mink loose. If that is true I can not imagine the...

Camera to alert me of deer?

I know little about these cameras, I do have trail cameras that are sent to my phone. I saw one adverted that screws into a light bulb socket and is remotely controlled to look 360 degrees around. I goggled light bulb socket camera and several brands came up. If you have a socket near where you...

Horse manure as a good garden compost?.🤔🤔🤔

Gardening use to be a lot of fun. Now that I will be 75 this year not as much. This arthritis makes it hard to get down and even harder to get up. I am going to do my best to make as many raised beds as I can. Late in the year the weeds got ahead of me but we still ended up with a good yield...

Horse manure as a good garden compost?.🤔🤔🤔

The first year you use that sterilizes manure weeds are not much of a problem. The heat from the steam kills the weed seeds. After the first year I love chicken and alpaca manure as top dressing. My biggest problem is deer, for over 30 years all they bothered was corn, beans and transferred...

Horse manure as a good garden compost?.🤔🤔🤔

we use what ever manure we can. It all goes to the compost pile and gets turned along with leaves and chips. My daughter raises Alpacas so I get all I can from her. This year we put a home on 17 acres but lost our old gardens and will be making new gardens and raised beds. So we will be layering...

Last summer when we were getting a lot more eggs my wife water glassed probably over 30 dozen. We are just now are starting to use them. We are selling all the fresh eggs we can and using water glassed eggs from last summer. You can not tell those eggs are about 8 months old. We have never kept...
