    Best "wedge" ever :)

yup. I prefer cutting in the 2 trees per turn size though. the beer cans are cool, but I produce better in the moderate stuff. everyone does as far as I can tell. but hell, I'm just in 107 country. wee picks, eh?

    Identify this wood

Coltont, Bitz, Treeslayer, holy ****, I just pulled half my hair out. What is it with some people? I might have cut 35,000 feet of poplar alone between Tuesday and Wednesday. least I hope it was poplar.....

    Got pine???

pretty well standard to cut a stem off the rootwad first, then proceed. Not always, but usually less movement from tension at the butt than out at the top. Would have prevented that excitement.

you can progress your back cut as you jack the tree into your favor, just like wedging, so by the time it commits to the fall there doesn't have to be any extra hinge. KB- so your jack placement was your original face cut? That'll throw your plans off right there!

Its not a solid nose bar. The stump could have a snipe out of site.

no, I meant that if he didn't go quite so deep he may have been able to do all his cutting from one side, cause the bar could reach all the way through, which would help to keep it cleaner. Looks to me like his face ended up over 50% in, so deeper, I don't think so. I wouldn't want it deeper...

KB- if the face would have been deep enough still you would have had a far easier time with the block face if you could have made your vertical bore from just one side, flowed by your lower then upper horizontal cuts. just takes practice.

    Advanced Falling Cuts

I agree. Just don't compromise your safety chasing one with head lean.

    Advanced Falling Cuts

Well run a longer bar and you can do it all from one side, all from the back. try it. go with a 32", or more.

    Advanced Falling Cuts

Forget it, in timber like that I'd pay you big money to do it just the way you are. Medium sized, and without head lean, sure, but wood like that needs to be done just right. I don't necessarily agree with the deeper face either, cause you build a lot more tension in your backcut wood. Coos bay...
