How do I release stuck chain brake? (Makita DCS6421)

Fixed it guys! I think Bob and Huskihl were right when they thought I might be pushing the brake in the wrong direction. Just glad I posted in the "101" forum here rather than an advanced section of the site :) I'm actually not quite sure what I did, though. I cleaned the area with a toothbrush...

How do I release stuck chain brake? (Makita DCS6421)

Thanks guys. I'll go back and give it a good tug as Bob suggested. I didn't even notice the metal shaving bits around the mechanism area that Blades pointed out. I'll brace myself for a shot brake band or clutch - thanks Blades. @holeycow - I'll take a look at the "keeper" screw that you...

How do I release stuck chain brake? (Makita DCS6421)

Hi. After having determined why my chainsaw didn't sound right (thanks Arborsite members!) I set out to get my chain break unstuck. However, after removing the side plate and looking at the mechanism(s) I'm not sure what to go from here. I made a short video that shows the chain brake mechanism...

Makita 6421 Sounding funny - Lack of Power

Thanks Jimmy. I appreciate it. That cylinder and piston upgrade is pretty wild. I'll entertain this but it might be down the road a bit. I've bookmarked the link. Thanks for telling me about this.

Makita 6421 Sounding funny - Lack of Power

HI folks. My 64cc Makita 6421 has been a great chainsaw, but lately it developed a problem. Can someone listen to it in the video below and tell me what you think? If its helpful, here's a link to specs per Makita: https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/DCS642120 Thank you in advance.

    Machines Replacing all Physical Labor?

Thanks, guys. These are helpful ideas. Some of the fire roads (and accompanying trails) are narrow at times and I think some of the larger equipment might not be able to gain access - but then again, I guess it's all about obtaining access (fire apparatus) so maybe going in and taking down much...

    Machines Replacing all Physical Labor?

Hi folks, I live in an area where, in the past, paid summer workers created lane clearance for the fire department in my community's wooded areas. However, this was about 25 years ago and the City didn't continue with the program. I'm curious, what would be the best choice, given the...

Does anyone know how to remove clutch from Makita DCS 6421?

An angle grinder! That's how I made the removal tool from a socket. I borrowed a small one and it worked great.

Does anyone know how to remove clutch from Makita DCS 6421?

Hi Guys, I just wanted to come back and ask how people make their own tool with a socket. How do people cut through the metal to make the notches? It seems like the socket is made of steel?

    Dolmar/Makita 6400/6401 Clutch removal tool

Jutt, I have another thread going on this subject but do you remember which way you had to rotate the clutch when striking it with the pry bar? Also, did you have to do anything else aside from just striking it?

Does anyone know how to remove clutch from Makita DCS 6421?

Thanks. If I recall correctly, we tried the adjustment screw where I bought it (used) but we couldn't get it to stop moving. The new clutch is pictured next to the old one. Just thought I'd toss that in picture. Ok, I'll have to find out what a piston stop is :) But first, do you know which way...

Does anyone know how to remove clutch from Makita DCS 6421?

This is my first chainsaw and I need to replace the clutch because the chain slowly moves when at idle. However, I have been unable to find any instructions on how to do this. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. This is a link to a picture of the chainsaw showing the clutch...

Home Depot Rental Chainsaw for Sale - Should I?

Thanks ATH. I read about kickbacks and saw a video where the operator just tapped the nose of the bar on a piece of wood and the thing went flying up toward him. I'll do my best to avoid this type of thing. Thanks for the reminder and information about what can go wrong. I don't need anymore...

1st Tree Removal Project help - Pics

Thanks Derwood. I appreciate the thumbs up. Videos on how to dismantle a fallen tree would be very helpful for me. Thanks for mentioning this. The "not to" seems pretty key too :) Thanks!

Home Depot Rental Chainsaw for Sale - Should I?

Thanks Blades. It's interesting to hear that you picked up an HD saw too. So an oiler pump assembler can indeed get fried - good to know. Presently I wouldn't be very good at detecting carb issues but hopefully I'm in the clear. I did notice, however, that when I ran the saw full open the power...
