    Carburetor question Stihl MS-250

So, I looked at a couple of videos of Carb replacement for the MS-250, and was able to see that the rubber boot that covers the adjustment screws is designed to fit under the housing. I checked the saw again, and there is an access hole for the L screw through the black top handle. In the end...

    Carburetor question Stihl MS-250

I acquired a Stihl MS-250 recently that was missing the air filter cover. I got it to run with some fuel mix poured in the carb throat. When I started looking into it closely, the carburetor is mounted so closely to the cylinder that the front adjustment screw is completely covered by the...

Sold Husqvarna 359 PHO for parts/repair

The saw is headed to Texas.

Sold Husqvarna 359 PHO for parts/repair

For sale is a Husqvarna 359 PHO for parts or repair. This saw has low compression (~90 psi). I did not take photos of the piston, but I did remove the muffler and the exhaust side of the piston has significant scoring on it. The cylinder would also be expected to have aluminum transfer, but I...

Will drum sprocket for Stihl MS180, 025, fit Echo CS-310?

I'm not sure about sprocket interchangeability, but there are some aftermarket options for the CS-310. A quick look on ebay showed some aftermarket rim sprocket options for ~$20 and some spur options for ~$12. I can't speak to the quality of any of those options. When you mention the Stihl...

    How to clean mufflers

I have had pretty good success by placing a caked up muffler over the side burner of my gas grill turning it on high and letting the flames stay on it for 10-30 minutes. Most of the time, the muffler will smoke heavily for a while, and often you can see an internal flame begin in the muffler...

    Echo CS-590 clutch locked up-damaged-repairable?

It looks like the brake is currently engaged. You said the brake handle was broken in the fall (and it is missing in the picture you posted). The lever which engages the brake band looks like it is flipped forward, which would mean tension on the band to keep the clutch drum from moving. You...

Where can I find Stihl to Echo guide bar adapter?

I bought an adapter from AS member @Homelite410 that looks almost identical to the one mentioned above from sawsuppliers.com. In my experience using the adapter the oil holes on a stock 3003 Stihl bar lined up perfectly on the CS-590 with no modifications. I'm using the adapter with a Stihl...

Best way for poor people to get a pole saw?

As others have mentioned, for those on a budget, I have a consumer style attachment capable powerhead with extension tubes. Over the years, I have upgraded some of the components. I found some Stihl pole saw units that were damaged and swapped the Stihl cutting attachment to the consumer...

Is my Husqvarna 455 Rancher worn out?

I don't know the Husqvarna specs for the saw, but in general, you need around 100 psi as a minimum to run. Desirable compression for most chainsaw engines is closer to 150 psi. As far as whether to spend money fixing your 455, I think it is definitely worth fixing. It isn't the best chainsaw...

Is my Husqvarna 455 Rancher worn out?

If you are referring to a 455, I think the front bar stud can be tapped back through the oil tank, and the rear it seems like comes out behind the oil tank near the muffler. I don't have experience actually changing the studs, I believe they are replicable.

Is my Husqvarna 455 Rancher worn out?

I enjoy working on saws and try and find saws to refurbish. Over the years I have repaired a few 455s. At least two of them had no real issues other than stuck rings. Both saws measured low on compression and had pistons with no scoring, but the side of the piston near the rings were somewhat...

    Stratto saw life

Over the past several years, I have refurbished quite a few Poulan homeowner saws. Mostly just fuel lines, carb cleanups, diaphragms, etc. In my experience with those saws, the non-strato versions from the 1990s-2004 rarely had piston/cylinder damage. In 20 or more saws that I worked on, I...

    New Echos

Regarding bar mounts for the Echo 620/590, it has been discussed before about using an adapter. The post below has some info with an adapter for Stihl 3003 pattern bars to be used on the Echo CS-590/620. I bought the adapter from AS member @Homelite410. In my experience, the oil holes on a...

    Homelite XL2 find

What are you hoping to do with the saw? Economics-wise, $75 isn't going to change your life one way or another, so if you want it, why not? For a good / excellent condition saw in original case sounds like a fair price. If you are looking at it as a saw that you would depend on running when...

Sorry, can someone help me identify the year this Homelite Super 2 was made?

From the serial number deciphering memo shown at the bottom of this post, I think your saw was built in 1980, Day 210 (Jul 28), 1375th unit built on assembly line 7. Text below from a Homelite Technical service bulletin...

    Cleaning out a muffler

I've had good success with either using a propane bottle with a torch attachment to heat the muffler enough to burn out the deposits, or to place it over the side burner on my gas grill for about 15 minutes to let it burn the deposits out of the muffler.

    What barmount for Echo CS621sx

Click the post below for some info regarding adapters for Stihl 3003 pattern bars to be used on the Echo CS-590/620. I bought an adapter from AS member @Homelite410. In my experience, the oil holes on a stock Stihl bar lined up perfectly with no modifications. Not that the gauge really matters...

Homelite Super 2 - parts and is it worth it to fix?

You could do a good visual inspection would be about the extent of it. Such as: check oil lines, diaphragm / plunger, oil tank cap, in-tank sintered metal adapter, and duck bill valve. Is this going to be your only saw? In that case, I would personally choose to put the money in a newer saw...

Homelite Super 2 - parts and is it worth it to fix?

In answer to your question #2 above: Is it worth putting $60-70 into the saw... From an economics only perspective it is likely not worth it. In my experience, a properly running Super 2 of that vintage will sell for around $50-60. If you are not concerned too much about the economics, I have...
