how hard is it to start sharping your chain saw chains?

Not quite $300 and what I have used for years. Works perfectly for me and it's what my local arborist supply store used to sharpen chains. Not that the original poster needs this thing, just wanted to say there are under $300 options. Bailey's - Oregon Bench Mounted Mini Grinder

Loading cut split firewood slabwood with bucket?

One simple solution that I've seen is to take an axle from a junk car/truck/etc. Mount the axle vertically so that one wheel rim is well above your deck height. Obviously everything has to be braced properly. You then mount/weld some type of jib crane arm (usually some type of thick wall pipe)...

Help needed on refitting an old boiler, specifically I need an automatic damper.

Jackel, That's not what I was asking for, that's better! I found your postings detailing your build and read through the entire thing up to where you got it working. I haven't had time to read the post warm house comments yet but I'll get to them. I must be pretty slow but I could not see...

Help needed on refitting an old boiler, specifically I need an automatic damper.

Actually it works fairly well, when it works. The air was a bit much before, more of a blast furnace than a boiler fire. The check valve dampens that a bit and creates a nice positive pressure. It does open about 30% of wide open with air pressure, when it opens. Dan

Help needed on refitting an old boiler, specifically I need an automatic damper.

Ahh, I see now. I don't that would work. I have to stop the smoke before the blower because : A. The blower isn't sealed so the smoke would just flow out of the motor itself B. The creosote would gum up the fan blades till it locked up the motor, or at least added enough weight to throw...

Help needed on refitting an old boiler, specifically I need an automatic damper.

Good idea. That's effectively what I have now, except what I'm using isn't adjustable after install like a BD. However I adjusted it by canting the connection a few degrees giving it just the right amount of gravity to close it. The issue is that eventually it clogs up due to creosote and soot...

Help needed on refitting an old boiler, specifically I need an automatic damper.

I'll have to take one when I get home and upload it. It's nothing dramatic. Small blower has a 1.5" round opening. That fits to a temporary solution which is a plumbing check valve which then goes into and through the door ending in a cut piece of 1.5" cast pipe which is open to the fire box...

    Firewood Cutting Table, saw horse.........

I am getting my splitting setup put together now and have been studying on what you are trying to do for some time now. I blew out my back a few years ago and am limited in what I can do. Basically I can pick up a water buffalo if it's at chest height. A chewing gum wrapper may be a problem if...

Help needed on refitting an old boiler, specifically I need an automatic damper.

Hi guys, relatively new to the site. I'll give a hopefully quick background and get to my question. Middle aged, married, 3 kids, in NC all my life, second generation on the family farm, moved into the big house 3 years ago next month and still getting things up to snuff. Tractors are my...

    Log lift

Very nice! Elegant solution. To add laziness to ingenuity, a small 12V electric winch would make this a push button affair and let you raise while you hold the tongs in place for initial pickup. You wouldn't need much of a winch since your weights aren't too dramatic, something like a 4 wheeler...

How much do you charge for a cord of wood?

Was at the mid-atlantic logging demo today in Selma, NC. Talked to a guy operating a processing machine who was from WV. He said that at the ski-lodge where they sell their firewood they are getting $600 per cord, delivered and stacked, $125 loose piled in a pickup truck. For a cord they would...
