So some time ago I bought a used 372xp cylinder for my build. Well it's time to upgrade. I was cutting a lot of firewood and the saw started losing power. So I put it away and finished up with the 262xp. I took it apart and the cylinder is scored and the piston is shot. So I'm in the market for a new set. I can to OEM I see them on fly bay, are there any other good choices for piston cylinder setups?

Do you value keeping the saw all Swedish? If your on a strick budget, check this sites sponsors there are many choices. Me, I'd save up for OEM if possible. Which 372 version/year is the saw?

I didn't take pics as the cylinder is no good. I bought it used and cleaned it. The plate has flaked off in a strip.

Do you think the clean-up compromised the plating and thats why its scored now? If you dont find out why it melted down then itll just happen again.

    That's very true.

If you're just wanting your saw back, buy a used p&c and keep cutting. There are loads of aftermarket options, but none are as good as OEM and husky kits aren't much more than Meteor or Hyway. The oem 51.4 mm xpw p&c is a spendier option that adds a little extra torque, but isn't very noticeable unless you're running long bars.

Then there are ported jugs. More expensive than the other options, but a real upgrade. Many porters will port a 372 jug without the saw because it such a popular model to modify. You would have to alter the muffler and tune the carb to suit a ported cylinder.

Kind of depends how much you want to spend.

So I dug more into the 372 last night and this morning, after splitting the case seems when I put the clutch side crank seal in the edge was worn back on one side. Not alot more visible after you take it out. So I ordered a new seals and gasket from the dealer local to me. Guess I was not careful putting it in.

It may have, but now I suspect that I had a air leak thru the seal. The cylinder a bought used had quite a bit of transfer on it ,it took some work to get it off and clean, I'm sure I over did that. But with wanting to get the saw running. I assumed it would be ok. It started and ran pretty good and went thru wood faster than the 262xp and I had a lot to do. 5 cord for mom and 6 for me.

    Ok, I still have been
Looking at different cylinders. I have looked at the Chinese knock offs, but then I saw a metor cylinder and piston set . We know the pistons are good but are the cylinders any good?

Oem top ends aren’t that much more than a meteor set. I would buy a 50mm top end for $150 and do some minor porting on it, base delete and muffler mod. If you don’t want to mod it than get the XPW top for a little more and just bolt it on and go. If you need a modded muffler let me know. I can hook it up

I'm not much on any mods, I only know enough to take apart, fix, and put back together and keep my saws running and looking good. I'd like to learn, but my business keeps me to busy. I am leaning toward a new oem set ,the stock 372 is a good saw to start with. My muffler is beat and I was looking at a new one on ebay but a modified muffler could be a option.

If you're not wanting to true up or bevel any of the ports, I'd definitely stick with oem. The AM stuff all needs some love to be useable
