House was built in the mid eighties. I assume the firebox was installed at the same time. It has a fresh air supply that runs with the ash dump and is controlled by a separate door below the main door. Problem is the fireplace doors are not designed to be any kind of air tight. So when I shut the fireplace doors, the fire just roars. I have no control over the combustion air. I want to replace the doors anyway since the current set don't really match the room. I do realize I wont find a set of truly airtight doors, but is there something out there that doesn't have holes below the doors to pull in room air?
