300yr anniversary saw.

Had been straight gassed when I got it.

Put an AM cylinder & piston. Ran it for about 2 months. Ran nice.

Started acting up, suspected it was a carb issue. Rebuilt carb, didn't fix it.

Put new AM carb, fuel line, crank seals (one was leaking just to say), still won't run right.

Has good compression and runs, but has a bad mid throttle bog and then at WOT goes lean.
May be a case leak?, though I cant find any leaks.

Anyhow, it's taken too much time, would like to pass it on. Nice saw, but I prefer my Stihl 460s, easier to start and handle.

I'd do $275 shipped in the US on it, which is what I have into it, not counting labor. I'll include the old parts if you want them.

I'll get pics later today. Top cover was cracked, I expoxied it.

Shipping will be around $70 based on what it's cost to ship a few other saws, so basically paying $200 for the saw.

Pics.

Correct. So it’s coming up on 30 years old.

Sounds like you have never used the saw? Just been working on it and haven’t got it running enough to try it out. Just wondering, because it looks kinda dirty, like it’s been used lately.

288s were built from 88 to 2001. Not sure what, if any, changes were made over the years. I didn't have any issue finding parts, though some we had in stock.

Stated in the ad, that I put a new piston and cylinder and was using it.

"Put an AM cylinder & piston. Ran it for about 2 months. Ran nice."

Uuummmmmm..... Brett, you’ve been holding out on us.

Define....... “had”. Does this mean you were crazy enough to let this saw go???

A NOS 281/288 is my holy grail-
All folks have to do is ask, I have a few saws.
Yes past tense. It is now part of someone else's collection.
All it takes is money.
Imagine what you could do with this one, it's a great start :).

Bump for a good saw-

I have several nice high top 281/288 saws. And a few clean 181’s..... but nothing NOS.

To the OP- when you said you couldn’t find any leaks, does this mean you already performed a vac/pressure test?

Just vac tested.

It does leak bar oil a bit at the case seam, so I'm guessing there's something weird going on with it. I'm just done toying with it, don't need a saw this heavy, so want to pass it on to someone else.

Disregard my earlier question. I think I misunderstood you when you said, "just vac tested". I took it as you had just performed a vac test like a few moments ago.

Pic. Not sure why it's not loading right?

Your image sizes are WAY to large you can crop them down a lot then compress them so they load a lot easier. I took your image above and reduced the size of it some (should have reduced it more) then compressed it for you. It's now at 420KB vs your original at 2.9MB.
