Hi all,

You probably get this a lot, but I could really use some help in identifying this tree:

I'm in Raleigh, NC and it's from a nearby lake area. I've been researching for hours and just can't narrow it down. My guesses include Sweetgum (although I didn't see any gumballs at the site), Ash, or Sassafras??

Its weight seems normal. The rounds are heavy by my standards, but I don't lift a lot of logs. They don't seem unusually lightweight. It also splits very, very easy.

Thoughts?

Thanks for everyone chiming in!

When I first made this post, I got a message saying it had to be approved by a mod, and then the post disappeared. I assumed I had probably posted it in the wrong section, so I ended up making a new one in the Pics Forum here: https://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/could-use-help-identifying-wood.328365/

A majority of folks over there agree that it's Ash, so that's what I'm goin' with.

Not sure why this post came back from the dead, but I appreciate y'alls feedback!
