My brother's property. A few miles from me. I had zero damage.

I volunteer at a nearby historic site of a couple hundred acres. Been clearing trails on massive blowdowns since Sandy left. Most severe forest damage in memory. One individual oak took two of us two days to get it down and off the trail. Megatons. Nor'easter took a few more biggies. All hands intact & smiling.
Should finish up next week. Been exercising Poulan PP5020AV- it likes the taste of big oak and hickory. I like the fuel endurance.

Hey, post what you just said on ModifiedMark's poulan pp5020 thread on the chainsaw forum. Guys need to see the work that an inexpensive saw can do.

Well..the destruction sucks but it's a target rich environment!

I have gotten so much and closer/easier access (except or one hickory I was determined to get out), that I just skipped beavering my way into the lower pastures swamp this summer to the big tornado twisted up patch. It looks even worse than this picture. Lotta wood though...

Big winds sure do make for some giant sized pickup sticks tangles!

Spent the afternoon at a friend's house cleaning up the exact same mess. His house is super insulated so he only burns about 2 cords a year. Told me I could have as much as I want. Man, tree work can really take it out of you when they are all tangled up! Only got 2 bucked up before we ran outta daylight. Property is sloped and at the bottom of a valley. To add to the level of difficulty, its soaked with springs and really rocky.

Amazing pic!

Reminds me of a statistic from the '38 Hurricane -- the Harvard Forest in Petersham, MA is a good 85 miles from the coast.

They experienced a loss of over 50% of the trees on 47% of their acreage, including 93% of their white pines.

Your pic must look exactly like their forests in the aftermath.

For all the complaints people (including me) make about the private power company's performance in windstorms...there ain't many left alive who can remember what a big storm could actually do.

I hate seeing damage like that; it looks a lot like our 2011 tornado damage. I am glad it isn't all going to waste. Be careful and enjoy the challenges posed. Ron

Lots of wood to be pulled out. A truck load at a time will take it out of you after a while. See if you can't use/borrow a trailer of some sort. Of course, each truck ride is a break of sorts, your call.

Looks like just a fabulous day to cut wood! I am hoping next week to go get a bit more from the bottom pastures creek area then that will probably be it, after that it will be too muddy. As it is now it has been a cool dry fall.

Have a trailer and will be using it until I can get my hands a 4wd dump. I was in the excavating business for 10 years. Wish I would have kept one of the dumps. That triaxle would be really nice right now! :censored:

And we're off!

Clean up officially starts tomorrow. My skid loader will get there tomorrow afternoon. Plan on moving the logs to a log yard and having my neighbor haul them to my place with his grapple truck. Might cost a little but will allow me to work at the logs as time permits. Looking for a small dump to haul limb wood and short lengths. Hopefully my back and knees will hold up. :frown:
