By the way how are my saws doing?...

Funny you would ask. They burnt up in the garage when Tom burnt my house down! Actually, I just finished readying them for you today. I put a fresh coat of paint on the clutch cover and installed the original muffler on the 064. I put the 20" B&C on the 359. They're both clean and ready to go.

gallegosmike,
do you notice a modified muffler on the univent vs your stock husky?
if so,is it much louder as well?
it may be of little concern to many.but to tree service users,we don't want to look unprofessional if modded mufflers make it sound as if we are using extremely loud saws that may concern the homeowners as to if our equipment is safe or not know what i mean?
my only concern there with the modded muffs.not sure im turned on to this particular modification.plus id like to keep my hearing for years to come lol.always ware ear protection, but still.[/QUOTE]

The muffler is same as stock 372xp. It is a empty shell without any baffle. I havent muffler modded any of my saws, yet! Most non-saw geeks are not going to be able to tell the difference between a stock and modded muffler.

There is big differnce between my univent and 372xp. The 372xp is all about chain speed, but its alittle short in the torque dept. The univent has great torque and chain speed.

It doesn't take a 75cc XPW or a Univent to make power. The saw below would crush a Univent. It's a 71cc XP ported LINK

I cannot claim that I can make a 372 outperform a Univent.

From my understanding, Univent has the husky factory port and flow the cylinder for them. Also the cylinder is based off the 375k cut off saw, not a standard 372xpw saw. I got mine for $700.00 from baileys back in jan. The saw is a beast compared to my stock 372xp (71cc) saw.

Muffler mods pretty much go hand in hand with a ported saw. That exhaust has to get out. Not modding the muffler will cost you a lot of power.

man this is tuff to understand.
so,
a ported 372xp in a video would crush a univent.
however the guy who was able to do this,no longer does.
a muffler mod is required, however univent claims to gain 1 hp more over a standard xpw.
id like to hear about a muffler modded univent.:D

so,it appears then, the key may be that a different jug/piston from a cutoff saw is what it takes to make a 6.5 hp 372 without the added noise level.
am i understanding correctly so far?
and if so.how difficult would it be to get a hold of said jug/piston and make the modified changes?
and would it be worth it?
any sort of ball park figure known for pricing of sending a 372xpw away and having it return with 6.5 hp rating wile maintaining a stock noise level like the univent does i guess is all this chainsaw user needs to know lol.:)

Arborist,

There's no free lunch. Mod the saw and ya let more fuel/air in, and more exhaust out for more power. Stock Muffler will defeat most of the gains by choking it.

Muff Mods are not too awfull more "Loud" than stock.

Don't get wrapped around the axle over it. The gains are worth it, and folks expect a noisy saw whenever you show up anyhow.

Stay safe!

With some reasonable longevity.

Muffler on my Univent is #544 02 97 02 which Baileys lists as a stock US forest approved muffler. It is not modified in any way. Gains on the Univent must come from Unifire doing something other than a muffler mod.

That is true, but the husky factory does a port and flow job on the jug and piston. Thats where the hp really comes from.

No they don't. Husqvarna AB has to adhere to the same EPA standards as everyone else. The factory does not port the 375K cylinder to make the 375XPW saw. The cylinders are totally different. It's not even possible to port a 375K cylinder to the same timing as a ported 375XPW because the roof of the exhaust is so much lower on the 375K cylinder and there's not enough meat there to raise it that high. I've ported both and know from experience.

The reason they are that expensive directly from UniFire is because they are selling them with carbide chains, and attachments for venting a roof in a fire. Hence the name UniVent...

:agree2: They run in some harsh environments.

These are both of the same house. Wind changed just long enough for the second pic to be taken.
