The other side of that story is someone calls and says "I'll take it! I'll be there after work tomorrow with the cash in hand".
The next 11 callers, you tell that "it's already sold".
The first caller never shows and now you've turned down your other interested parties so they are somewhere else looking now.
The rest of the week goes by without callers and you have no sale and a listing fee to pay.

I tell EVERYONE upfront "The first guy here with the cash takes it".

There are definitely two sides to that coin!

I have a similar story with a sofa and loveseat I was trying to sell. I didn't have any listing fees, but it was a very frustrating Saturday, Sunday and into the Monday with folks saying they were "on their way" and telling other prospects that someone was coming already. I had kept track of phone numbers and called them in order as needed. Turns out that on the Monday, someone close to the house actually came and got them (actually I delivered the sofa and loveseat a few miles).

Seems like hardly anyone's word is good anymore. Sad.

I no longer hold any thing, for anyone on CL. It is first one with the cash in hand gets it. There are to many tire kicks out there and too many no shows. I will give them a time frame to show up, but not much. On the flip side, if it is a good deal like that 372 you have to be ready to head out the door with the cash in hand also. If you give a guy to much time to think about it and he is getting allot of replys for the item he may raise the price or want more $$ when you show up. Or he deletes the post or edits the post for more $$. Good saws at good deals alway sell fast. I have missed my fair share on good deals on CL.

There was no debating on this last one, I learned my lesson the other day. I could not make the trip that night, I guess I should have, but the guy made me feel very comfortable, and I thought for sure that our 9am meeting the next day would send me home with a new big saw. Bummer. Maybe I'm the sore loser, I don't know but this one peeved me off.

Yup there's no question about it. People that want something for nothing usually get just what they deserve, nothing, you got it twice,LOL

A fellow member put a link up here yesterday for a big saw near me, actually about a 50 minute ride. It was a craigslist ad and there was no phone number in it. I emailed the guy immediately saying I'd like to see it and gave him my phone number. Apparently I was the first guy to respond so he called me first. After confirming it was what I thought it was I asked him when would be a convenient time for him to show the saw, he said saturday morning around 9am and I agreed to be there. I asked for first chance(a term left for those who still have honor) and he said no problem. I didn't push to see it "right now" and he didn't offer. If he had, I would have jumped in the chariot and headed out. I will call him promptly at the time he told me too, get directions to his house and head on down the road. He runs a Tree Service and you could tell, from the 20 minute converstion we had, that he is a man of honor. I anticipate coming home with it in the trunk and putting it in a nice Oak log when I arrive home and making a video to post here.
Stihl 046 Magnum.

All deals go down just a little differently, sometimes you have to work a little finesse and tack and be prepared to move with lightning speed.

He wanted a good deal and also wanted the people he was dealing with to hold up their end of the deal. How does that make him want something for nothing?

I might have done things differently if I was in his shoes, but he wasn't trying to clip anyone.

Yes best way to handle it. Promising strangers will let you down. Now if someone has put a deposit on it, or you have decided to promise it to someone, then when people call the fair thing is to let them know a deal is in the works, but take their number and name and let them know that if it falls through you will call them back. Fair to you, fair to them.

I wouldn't turn down cash in hand for someone that wants to come tomorrow.

In reality, dngrrar, or whatever, probably hangs around a long time,
haggling, trying to chip down an already good price.

Why would I turn down cash in hand for that?

I hope my bil e-mails me soon......

I figure a Husqvarna that big is worth that price, even if the piston is toast!

Exactly. Reminds me of guy that came in the shop a few weeks ago. He goes you got any used saws. I go no, none here. He goes what you got cheap. I go how much you want to spend for a saw. He goes not over a 100.00. Bingo to me. I told him to get the ---- outta here and stop wasting your time and mine. He left faster than he walked in.

How so, he complained about the people calling the boy with the 372. Yet he didn't buy it himself so whats his complaint? The second seller called him and left him a message, deal off. So whats his complaint? If he wants to be treated like he's buying something new at full retail he needs to go buy new and pay full retail.

Ben would be pizzed off, and on.....

Brian,

You see where I ripped you in another thread?

B200,

Thanks you for this very easy question. This is your 3 step plan:

1) Stencil Stihl MS-Pinto at several visible places on the outside body.

2) Become friends with 2K.

3) Ask 2K if your car "kicks butt".

Let us hear from you,

ole joat

Sorry ole chap. I can resist anything but temptation,

Drgnarr you are obviously pretty new to this but your learning quickly.
Your latest lesson is don't put off till tomorrow what can be done today.
Maybe third time lucky.

Aus,

Or, as we say "up over", "He who hesitates is lost" or "Strike while the iron is hot".
