Hey, I just had the perfect Idea for ya! A muffler modded pole saw! It will sound good and run good but wont blow exhaust on your wood and back in your face. It will be a little heavy with a 24 inch bar and slow but hey who cares about that, that dang exhaust wont bother you! Ever again!

I wasnt saying it bothered me all the time just when ya get trees with really big root flares the exhaust gets pretty pottent. I was trying to say the dp cover seems better in this situation than the exhaust coming out the side. I spent the hole summer cutting blow down timber so it was a pain to have the ehaust blow in my face.

I consider a muffler mod as much art as function. I can combine both, its a huge part of my chainsaw hobby.

I see these posts of people drilling 10 holes or so in the front of an 044 muffler or an 066 muffler and it makes me sick.

AMEN...function and fit is what my muffler mods are about. It must do 4 things:

A. Increase the flow of exhaust
2. Not blow crap all over the place
III. I forgot.....
D. Not look like a hobbled up piece of crap done by some crackhead

I look at some of the pics of folks, that they so proudly share of their newly improved tin snipped, welded up and ground out pieces of tin that at one time used to be a muffler and just have to chuckle. Some of it is hilarious.

We dont turn the deflectors around so the exhaust blows back on us. LOL

That is only in "winter mode".

Whatever, Im going to bed!:monkey:

:agree2: A four foot tail pipe to get the exhaust behind you would be awkward!

Hey, that's my idea. I go to Autozone and get the 1 1/2" flexpipe and JB weld it to my muffler then I stick the end of the pipe in my back pocket as a "seat warmer" for winter cutting, the only time it blows in my face now is when mine head is up my a.... , nevermind, LOL.

I'm sending my patent paperwork off right now,

I wasn't even talking to you. I was telling the OP if he was a hack don't do a MM, buy the cover.

But since you wrote that lengthy, random, stupid Hack like post....

Touche` and point taken... HAHAHAHAHA!

Reason I took it that way (obviously the wrong way too...) is because you quoted me...

Water off a duck mang!

Oh... I don't hate quoting... I just hate it when people are constaly quoting the very next post... Me... I do it correctly... only when it pertains to a point I wanna make. Sometimes it might be the next post but... i digress... :)

...and mainly when someone quotes a post with a lot of pics and then doesn't remove the pic tags... unless they are talkin' about a specific pic.

anyways... back on topic!

Here is one for ya gary...

Nice factory look.

damn look what i did to this thread.
what was the OPs question

Feeling a bit grouchy, are we?

Yeah, Evan, it's all your fault! I think you guys scared the OP off with all this bickering. Actually the question was answered in the first 3 posts and is really very simple. Buy the OEM cover for a quick and easy $30 mod that includes a spark arrestor screen (like I just did for my new-to-me 044) or cut and weld/braze away to your heart's content if you like to tinker. No big deal.

It's that simple, and no need to get all worked up. Bad weather got you guys feeling a little grouchy? It was 70 degrees here in So Cal today; I was wearing shorts and barbecued ribs (slow, over oak wood chunks) for my brother's birthday.

Stay cool, guys.

I know what you mean, thats why I did mine like Pioneerguy600. Stumpin and all, the exhaust is off of me as much as its gunna be. You gotta open your muff and get back what the EPA is stealin!

.

Either way is fine, as long as the fit, finish, and function are maintained.

You must also consider, "What is my time worth?"

The question is, what oil do you run with a hacked up muffler? Is it te same oil as if you did the muffler right? Same oil as if it were stock?

I thought it was pretty funny, guess I could have worded it better. Only reason I didn't get the DP cover was its $70 tag... I think a well designed muffler could do better in certain conditions, even better then a DP.
