It might be something groundbreaking in the world of chainsaws

GO TEAR IT DOWN!!!!! It aint like you cant put it back together....

i thnk both are mixed. one with cheap oil. you have a lower rod or main bearing failure. i'm betting lower rod bearing.

after markit crank?

If the top end looks good, that goes against all theorys of "straight gassin" that I have ever heard, but I dont think there is a question that that was straight gas. Im assuming it was a "Bailey's" crank??

Straight gassed

Hey Parrisw,it's your fault that he straight gassed it.If you had built it properly, that wouldn't have happened.I can see bar oil in the wrong tank but straight gassed?Remind me not to have you as a rebuilder....hehe.

Here is the results. Big end rod bearing failure.

Same here?? Crank was from a place locally, most likely the same as a Baileys one?? Not totally sure. Its been over a year now, in a commercial environment, if it was the cranks fault I assume it would of happened sooner??

LOL!!!!!

Thanks for the teardown report, parrisw.

Are you thinking the bearing failed due to lack of lubrication, yet somehow the piston didn't seize first ?

That's what I think??? There was a coating of oil on the piston?? Maybe there was enough left over to give it a little lube, who knows???

My theory on the colour of the gas is that, there was a little mix left in the saw tank, he then filled it with straight gas, mixing a little with what was left in the tank, giving very little lube, but not enough for the big end to survive. My first question to him tomorrow will be what kind of oil do you run? If he says husky or stihl?? Then it should be blue gas mix right? I'm assuming both those oils are blue, almost every 2stroke oil I seen is blue. The **** I took out well, you can see.

at least now you know what is wrong and can tell him....

I'm sure he will be happy to hear the piston is fine....LOL

thats not a lack of oil failure. there is no sine of heat on the rod/

how mutch time is on the crank?

The saw has been outa my hands for over a year now in a commercial application?? So its anybody's guess on how much time.

If its not lack of lube then what??? What say you about the gas??? I think you need to look at it again. I'm not yankin anybody's chain here. That aint proper mixed gas in there, I don't care what anybody says.
