So mowoodchopper, you are telling us you burn 2,750 gallons of saw gas to run a tree business and heat your home?

thats what a 55 gallon drum will do if my math is right. . .

I'll second 056's math (50:1 mix) .... actually I got 2,758 gallons but had to factor in a metric to imperial conversion :)

Dude ...think you got a leak in your fuel tank :dizzy:

My 346 is about 53cc. I grafted a 357 cylinder on the saw. I built that one before they had the NE version. It will out cut the 346NE that I port but not by a lot. It was a lot of work to build that one and make it look factory. It was hard to get the top cover on but I did manage it. I doubt that I would do it again. I probably have 16 hours of machine work to the case, flywheel and cylinder just to bolt it on the case. Well maybe not that many hours in the machine work itself most of that time was setting thing up in the mill and a lot of measuring and thinking. I used the 357 muffler but I had to cut an inch out of the center and weld it back together. The muffler now bolt to the front of the case just like the 346 muffler. It looks factory. Everything fits under the original top cover. The hard part was finding a piston to use with the 357 bore and the small wrist pin of the 346.

sounds like a fun project, but I have to ask why?
Why not just port NE and get them smokin....

Another hmmm, why would a fellow spend so much time to make it look just like factory, especially making the covers fit perfect. But its 3cc over what every body else has, but looks factory.

He said 55 gallon of mix, not oil. Why all the hating in here? Makes no sense to me at all. So the guy has use for a light saw with a 28" bar. So what if you guys don't. Just because he's not thinking in the same box you are, doesn't make him wrong.

Well said, Brad...

Mowood don't like it because it's a 346xp. :biggrinbounce2:

There is no way in hell I'd run a 28" bar on my 346 even if I did have it ported and set up for it.

It would be like picking your nose with a pool cue.

All the same, it's pretty cool that some nut went and did it and made it work.
Sometimes stuff just has to be done, cuz nobody thinks it should be. LOL!!

Any Videos of 260's pulling anything longer? LOL!!

Forget practical. That's boring.
I wanna see a 260 pulling a 32 in hardwood or it's settled. LOL!!

Stay safe!

Howdy All,
Whether it's modified or not, smaller powerheads with longer bars aren't anything new. If you're limbing or bumping knots on the landing and trying to put food on the table with a bad back, it's like a gift. Even if you're bucking, it's ok up to a certain diameter because your sciatic will be thankful enough to let you continue to work. I don't think anyone has been advocating showing up to your strip with a couple a 346's in tow but, it certainly has viable alternate applications.

Gregg

Thats right! LOL You hit the nail on the head. Now if you wanna go with a 5100 with a 32 thats a good idea and very usable. :biggrinbounce2:

No seriously I tend to run shorter bars, I dont even like a 20 on a 50cc saw.

The bar oil issue was my concern...28 inch is a long way to have to sling oil...Wonder if you would have to get a diffrent pump for to buck big logs with one....

sounds like a fun project, but I have to ask why?

Because I can and I wanted to do it.

Because when I built that one they only had the 45cc vesion.

Hmmmm
At the time it was 8cc larger then the 346. I also wanted a cheater saw to run in the 3 cube class.
